Your use of paradoxical architecture in conjunction with every day creates a display one's reality compared with another's. Consider including animals such as birds or squirrels into the outdoor scenes to provide a more natural looking backing and/or further the depiction of relativity.

The way the golden glow illuminates the glass pyramid at night is breathtaking, and the reflection on the wet ground adds a sense of serenity and depth to the scene. This photograph captures not only the physical beauty of the Louvre but also the quiet magic that surrounds it after dark. We noticed what appear to be faint figures or dark markings at the base of the pyramid’s reflection, which sparked curiosity and slightly drew attention away from the overall beauty of the piece. Nevertheless, the untouched and natural quality of the photograph enhances its authenticity and majesty.

Frida, I am enamored by this self-portrait. The green background of foliage successfully evokes the jungle, which you've reinforced with a thoughtful selection of creatures (monkey, panther, bird, insects) and the parts of the ecosystem they represent. Given the drama of your composition, you might want to consider a more definitive expression, as it may be challenging for the observer to discern your response to being surrounded by such beauty.

Hello, Frida. As a lover of all manner of creatures and plant life, I am enamored by your self-portrait. The green shade of the foliage background is an intriguing choice: not a traditional or expected "jungle" green, but verdant nevertheless. I also like how you've presented a variety of creatures whose fur (and feathers) is black, which provides a striking similarity to your own dark hair. Given this dramatic imagery and symbolism, you might want to consider a more definitive facial expression to more clearly communicate your own response to being surrounded by such fascinating life. I enjoyed this art because it's so vibrant and unlike anything I've been from you before!

I appreciate how captivating and authentic your painting is in capturing the essence of Frida. Your painting carries a brilliance of how Frida’s emotionless and direct gaze, can simultaneously exclaim an emotional and deep meaning. There is element of rich symbolic meaning that represent an emotional story, and provokes the viewer to consider the symbolic meaning of each animal and insects. The colors and background used is a representation of the outdoors, which is where you would find these creatures. Consider shifting from a direct gaze standpoint to a slight sideview, to convey a less direct approach that might be viewed as bit confrontational. Your masterpiece of a painting has grasped my full attention!

Hi M.C.,

What a truly fascinating work you've created! Your use of faceless figures, the choice of limiting the palette to shades of gray, and the mind-bending multiple perspectives make this a work that a viewer could stare at for hours, pondering the many actions of our lives that feel ceaselessly repetitive and unrewarding. The only figure I found somewhat confusing was the seated reader--reading seems to convey an escape, and the positioning of the staircases suggests no escape. I wonder if there is a way to hint at the intention of that figure without of course solving the puzzle for the reader. Again, this is such a marvelous accomplishment, and one that will stay in the mind of any viewer.

Here, the range of earth-tone colors used, from top to bottom, is engaging, including the white shirt at the bottom and light blue butterflies on the purple head dress. When comparing the use of color here to what the XYZ rubric describes as general need for more orange in portraits, we felt indeed, a stronger representation of orange is needed. One suggestion that can help check this box off in the rubric is adding sunlight to the top of the background behind the leaves.

Reviewed by: Michelle Vogel Trautt

This piece is easthetically captivating and emotionally evoking. When looking at this photo, I am immediately timewarped in history to my first visit to the Louvre, a strong episodic memory that brings me back to the exact time and place standing in front of this increbile artitectual masterpiece. I can feel the breeze flowing through my hair. The reflection of the light reflcting off the night sky. This was my first international trip, I felt so small in a world that I perceived as "so big". One suggestion I have for the artist for enhancing this photograph is to experiment with the vignette filter. A dark vignette filter will centralize the viewers focus on the center of the image and can also enhance the romantism that exudes form the photo. Another suggestion is to consider experimenting with the noise reduction filter to increase the sharpness of the center of the image to further draw the viewer into your image. Even without adjustments, this is a great photo and I encourage you to consider submitting to our local community art festival. :-)

Your drawing effectively creates the illusion of three-dimensional space through the interplay of light and shadow. I love the way the human figures in the piece seem to defy gravity as they move through the surreal architecture you've constructed. The effect is mind-boggling in a wonderful way. Very well done! Adding a bit of color to the piece could make it even more striking. Have you considered experimenting with other media as well?

This painting is a striking example of emotional intensity and personal symbolism. The artist’s direct gaze immediately captures the viewer’s attention, communicating strength, resilience, and introspection. The lush background of green leaves creates a vivid contrast against the central figure, enhancing the sense of vitality and connection to nature. The inclusion of animals, such as the monkey and the black cat, adds rich layers of meaning, suggesting companionship or mystery. The painting’s background, while rich and detailed, can appear somewhat flat and overly dense. The figures and leaves share the same visual plane, which reduces depth and creates a crowded composition that may feel visually heavy or overwhelming to some viewers.

Greetings, Frieda!

This portrait submitted here is absolutely engaging. You have said so much, without directly saying anything at all. One of the brilliant aspects of your work here is that the image so multifaceted, and therefore subject to diverse interpretations. For instance, while one viewer may focus in on the relationship between flora and fauna developed in your painting, another may be more concentrated on the colors and shapes used and what your intentions were in composing such a design; and, still, there is room for interpretation that is sincerely so impactful! The fact that there are so many thoughts and emotions that can be gleaned from your work warrants high respect. If it was your intention to leave your motivations up to interpretation, job well done! In fact, by allowing for a creative interpretation of your work, it allows the viewer to connect the image to things that they might value or perceive within their own lives, thus cultivating a piece that can be relevant regardless of its age. On the other hand, if it was your motivation to convey a specific message or idea, perhaps consider adding a more direct aspect to your painting in future endeavors to clearly advocate to your readers your precise meaning. Whatever the case may be, this is a job well done!

Should your intention be the former, I would love to offer my own interpretation of one of the aspects of your painting to further illustrate the meaning regarding the benefits of composing such a multifaceted work. One aspect of your painting I find very interesting is how the monkey is positioned in comparison with the feline. For time's sake, I will limit by interpretation primarily on the monkey. The monkey is not facing us (the viewer) at all, while seeming to be preoccupied by the twigs or twine that seem to encircle (perhaps too tightly?) around the central figure's (your) neck. However, the monkey's expression in no way seems malicious, but rather trying to figure out how to untangle or remove the bindings that are so constricting... and the constricting aspect is further made clear by the blood and the bruises that seem to be on the neck as well. The monkey looks thoughtful and concerned at first glance. However, on a second look, the monkey almost seems to be bored or exasperated by its never-ending task to untangle these reeds around the neck. I have third and fourth (and so-on) interpretations as well, expanding also the other aspects of the painting, which I would love to convey to you should you be interested in discussing your work further! In any event, I am hopeful that my rambling interpretations can illustrate to you the masterfully interpretable aspects of your work, of which clearly promote the longevity of the relevance of the piece overall. This is sincerely great work, and I would love to see what you come up with next!

Warmly,

Kasandra
