Definition: Using products, teachings and beliefs based on the notion that it was used by ancient peoples, so it must be true and effective. This is not always so as modern day science and technology has advanced beyond the capabilities of ancient times.

Connection: This video relates to ancient wisdom because the gentleman in the video named Seth, is a "traditional healer" in Johannesburg, South Africa, more commonly known as "witch doctors". Dating back to the 18th century, the practice of being a "witch doctor" is directly correlated to witchcraft. Seth claims that hyena fat and lion saliva are the ingredients required to repel criminals. Of course, there has never been any documented cases of witchcraft being performed with the expected results so it is important to remain skeptical.

Definition: Mystical energy is a type of false energy created to add scientific merit to pseudosciences.

Connection: This entire website is dedicated to using "mystical energy" to solve one's life problems such as finding your purpose and living a life full of love. The owner of the website, Annie, offers an 8 week spiritual course to help you determine your purpose in life and a myriad of other problems one would encounter in life. Information such as this has never been proven scientifically, if it did I believe that it would solve problems for a lot of people still struggling with problems.

Definition: The use of religion to reinforce the validity of a service or product.

Connection: In this video, you can see a man "healing" a woman's hip problems with a long range of sounds and claiming that the "power of God will surge through her body" and give her a brand new hip. I'm sure that one can come to the conclusion that not only is this not scientifically possible at all, that it will cause more problems. That lady may not get her hip transplant anymore because she believes the power of God gave her a brand new hip.

Definition: Products or services that claim to be "all natural" but does not provide any actual scientific evidence of success.

Connection: A very hot all natural topic is the use of essential oils to replace standard medicine. To my knowledge, and in my research, there have not been any notable scientific evidence that essential oils can heal anything. Many believe that because essential oils are derived from roots and plants and such that it must mean that they are medically beneficial, when in reality there is no scientific merit behind the use of essential oils in replacement of medicine.

Definition: The suppression of products or information to the general public by the government.

Connection: A big conspiracy theory that has circulated is that there is a cure for cancer and the government is hiding it in order to make money of those affected by the disease. This article does a good job debunking that myth with facts but at the same time the truth isn't always upfront, so it's important to stay informed and skeptical on this issue.

Definition: The answer is so simple, it must be true. For example, my phone rang after I thought about it ringing, so I must have magical powers.

Connection: I chose to connect simplicity to what some call the law of attraction. If you can think it, it will happen! As nice as it is to think that something such as this is possible, similar to witchcraft there is no scientific evidence to support this, just mere coincidence.

Definition: Believing in something because it is related to your religious beliefs.

Connection: In various religions, you are expected to believe in and perform certain rituals without question as this is the custom in the religion. For example, in Catholicism, you are required to confess your sins to your priest as well has partake in communion, which involves "eating the body and blood of Christ". In reality, you are eating a flavourless wafer, and drinking wine but many believe that if you are a devout enough Christian the wine and wafer will turn to flesh and blood. There is no scientific evidence to prove this or that any religious rituals such as that are effective.

Define Problem:

Many people believe that essential oils an cure a wide range of health issues.

Gather Information:

The source is a website for a variety of different purposes including health, money and technology. I have never heard of this website before. In this article that is posted it does mention that it's important to inform your doctor of your intentions, but then also goes on to say that the use of essential oils goes way back.

Evaluate Evidence:

I don't believe the source to be extensively credible, as it is not a well known website. There doesn't seem to be much, if any, of the scientific method used as they author focuses on the history and how to "blend" them for optimal use with no facts or science behind it.

Recognize Assumptions:
The assumption is that if you use the right essential oils and blend them well they can offer some type of health benefit, also not named. There are no examples of any health benefits of the essential oils.

Synthesize Evidence, Identify Alternatives:

The evidence could suggest that using essential oils in conjunction with traditional methods will help you reap the rewards. Still there are little to no pieces of evidence from a doctor or science in general.

Select Best Alternative:

The best alternative would be to visit your doctor first, express your desire to use essential oils in your health regimen and use the information the doctor gives you. There could be health benefits to using essential oils in conjunction with traditional medicine but the source of that answer would be with a doctor directly.
