Because the writer (in story case) is Maya,thus writing "I can't..."or "I Should..." and so i feel like the writer is myself, thus connected to Maya...in a way.

Another reason is that i also cover my ears in a quarrel.I hate listening to people shouting for no reason.
But the point is that whatever the reason for the quarrels, I just hate it.
