Most would agree. That being said, the concept of linking and exclusivity is an important music element to all kinds of music. This concept that Ratliff writes on, in summary, is how musicians are able to stagger emotions and life experiences and how their able to bring even opposing feelings into one piece. Hearing a song, rather than feeling one emotion ( for example, happiness ) you can feel multiple ( happiness and sadness ). From his playlist in " Tomorrow Sunny, " Ratliff writes on the questions in space to the listener, " Do i know my way around? " and " How much, in a sense, can i control ? ".. listening to the song; i can agree with where he gets the questions from and how he generated his ideas on this element! A song of my choice using this element is " The Weekend " by SZA. This concept is shown in the song by the overlapping of tunes and the increasing of feeling behind it as the singer sings lyrics that build up an emotional connection with the listener. This song brings the emotions of being hurt yet satisfied with the situation.
