Respect is given. Students behaviour in the classroom is often a reflection of the outer circumstances students face beyond the classroom, whatever it may be for the particular student. As educators we need to respect this and not base the level of respect we give student based off their behavior in the classroom - Ryan

Respect goes many different ways, as the teacher must respect the teacher and the student must respect the teacher. Personally, I think that respect should always be given. I think that we need to respect that we all have something valuable to say and that all of our voices have equal value. Even if our perspectives are different from one another, we need to respect that we all have different identities and experiences that make us who we are. We are all on a learning journey together, and we need to respect that about one another. No one should ever have to earn someone's respect, because it should be given to everyone automatically. Teachers need to put their status and privilege aside and recognize that they can learn a lot from their students.
- Emma Kate

In my Gr.5 class, our teacher had lunch-ins with all of the students! She made us dress up fancy, she would put fancy tablecloths over the table and buy flowers and fruit trays. Through lunch recess, a few of us would stay in and talk to her about whatever we wanted! School related our outside of school! I think this allowed my teacher-learner relationship to be much stronger with her as she was aware and interested in my life outside of school. After this, I felt very comfortable going up to her and she went out of her way to help me many times! This made a world of difference in my personal life and school life too!! - Jessica
