Most scholars believe Hinduism formally started somewhere between 2300 B.C. and 1500 B.C. in the Indus Valley, near modern-day Pakistan. Unlike other religions, Hinduism has no one founder but is instead a fusion of various beliefs. The traditions which flow into the Hindu culture may go back several thousand years and some practitioners claim that the Hindu revelation is eternal.

But later, Christain missionaries sought to convert and westernize the people.

Many reformers emerged during the British Period. The well-known politician and peace activist, Mahatma Gandhi, led a movement that pushed for India’s independence.

One issue is that the Hindu culture is still battling to root out the left wing extremists (called Naxalites) entrenched in its tribal belt called the ‘Red Corridor’. They represent the ground soldiers of the communist ideologues who live in the cities as professors, doctors, advocates, social workers and human rights activists They wish to convert India into an authoritarian communist state. Another issue within the subculture is the conflict between the social hierarchy within the caste system. People generally located in the lower level of the caste system, have constant quarrels with people in the upper level of the caste system.

It is considered to be a turning point in an individual’s life as he enters the second important phase of his life. Indians remove their shoes when entering any home or place of worship, even in some shops, so men and women alike always keep their feet clean and presentable. People all over India use the word "Namaste"and the gesture that accompanies it when they meet each other and when they say goodbye It's pronounced "NA-ma-stay," although some people say "namaskar."

Belief in reincarnation significantly influences Hindu attitudes towards animals, and issues on the sanctity of life. The fundamental teaching of Hinduism, or Vedanta, is that a human being's basic nature is not confined to the body or the mind. Beyond both of these is the spirit or the spark of God within the soul. The Hindu Culture has many sacred documents but no single sacred text such as the Bible. Some of them include: Verdic Verses, Upanishads, Ramayana, and the Bhagavad Gita. The Hindu culture also has different clothing as women wear Saris and men wear Sherwanis for formal events.

The Hindu culture encompasses many languages. There are 22 major languages in India, written in 13 different scripts, with over 720 dialects. The official Indian languages are Hindi and English. Some languages include; Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Sanskrit. With Sanskrit being the oldest language in the Hindu Culture. The Swastika and Om are the most important symbols in the Hindu culture. Om represents the three worlds of earth, atmosphere, and heaven; the three major Hindu gods. It is a Hindu sacred sound that is considered the greatest of all mantras. The word "Swastika" stems from the Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language and means 'being happy'. It receives a negative connotation in the present day due to the misinterpretation with the Nazi Swastika as The Nazi regime misuses the symbol.

The functional perspective in the Hindu culture is characterized by the way in which all living things including animals and human beings are all the same. The caste system is organized in such a way that the lower levels provide the higher levels with food and the higher levels provide the lower levels with land to farm. The conflict perspective is apparent in the Hindu culture as there are conflicts between the Muslim culture and Hindu Culture. Both cultures have different beliefs which contradict and they have been fighting as early as when these cultures were created. The Hindu culture has a variety of symbols and they are also involved in people's everyday life. For example one can wear a bracelet with the om symbol on it.

Ethnocentrism comes comes into play in the Hindu culture as they think that their culture is superior. An example of this would be the quarrel between the Islam culture and the Hindu culture. But they also accept other cultures using their symbols to provide them with moral support. An example of this would be the Nazi regime using the Swastika, originated from the Hindu culture, to act as a motivating force.
