  • ESOL students need a supportive teacher who will give them ample time to answer questions.

  • They need lots of visual aids, many different styles and approaches to teaching.

  • They need a teacher who is empathetic to their situation and willing to communicate with the family.

  • They need a least restrictive environment when it comes to learning the new language where they feel comfortable to speak, read, listen, and write without feeling uncomfortable.

    They need time to complete assignments, wait time from the teachers to respond to questions.

    Students need to be able to connect with their teacher.

    Students need to feel comfortable.

    Students need to have a will to learn, or they need to learn why learning English is so important to them.

    Phonetical awareness will help with student's confidence.
