Technology is changing quickly and frequently. Teachers can stay current by attending professional development (PDs) classes devoted to utilizing technology in the classroom. These PDs will help teachers explore and implement technology in their lessons. Some PDs are offered online, while others can be attended in person. Attending these PDs will give teachers extra resources and practices to help them be more comfortable using new technology in their classrooms. This video has some options that can easily implemented in our schools.

Keeping your technical skills up-to-date can be a daunting task, but it is extremely important for those in the educational field. I have to agree with Nicole on attending professional development. The best I have found is the HISTI (Hot Springs Technology Institute) Conferences. The format of the conference provides diverse opportunities for participants. There are general sessions as well as breakout sessions that cover a myriad of topics. Past conferences have included over 40 Pre-Conference workshops which provide intense hands-on training. Although the focus has always been on providing learning and sharing opportunities for educators, vendors have been invited to set up areas to demonstrate products of interest to participants. In previous years, HSTI hosted over 110 exhibitors displaying and demonstrating the latest in educational technology resources, breakout sessions, and some of the countries foremost experts in technology education.
I have been to this PD for at least last seven years. The pre-conferences are the best - limited class size. Register early i.e. the day they open registration- they sell out fast. It's worth every penny :-)

Constantly research and trying out all new technologies is the best and only way to stay relevant with the technological world. Consistency with technology also keeps one in the loop with their students, and it allows a better connection within the learning environment.

I don't believe we have to know everything. I know we are the teachers, but sometimes maybe our resources are right in front of us. Take a step back sometimes and listen to your students. Students sometimes know more about technology than some teachers. Another great resource, is your library media specialist. I say this because I am a LMS. Librarians are not what we used to be 20 years ago. We have to stay on top of technology. I know that I reach out to our computer teachers and get them information on lessons that they can teach in their rooms.

Google can be your bestfriend when you are trying to come up with ideas for your students. Simply google "new technology for students 2019 or 2020" and I am sure a lot of information will pop up for you to read. Also, there are some websites that are specifically for technology with students that includes information about new ways to teach using technology.

I would say the best method to try to keep up to date is by doing professional development, reading tech articles, and listening to students. Professional development is a great way to go to school funded presentations that give you more tools for your classroom. Educational articles are generally easy to come by and great for teachers to get a quick glimpse of new tech. Lastly, students will usually talk about what they're interested in, it just takes someone to listen to them.

We will never be able to fully keep up with the latest and greatest technology trends because they are ever changing rapidly and will not slow down anytime in the foreseeable future. We as the teachers have to be open to trying new things and continuing to update the resources we use to teach with. Even though this is a pain we have to think of the kids and how new pieces of technologies that have not even been created could help them improve on some skills that we are struggling to teach in our classroom. The video below is an example of what a future classroom could look like when technology gets better students might just take all of their notes off of their phones or tablets. As teachers it is important to continue researching, collaborating with other teachers (from your school and others), and continue expanding your use of technology in your classroom.
