....... submitting assessments through Turnitin allows students to check that they have synthesised source information and have expressed original meaning about their research topic, whilst avoiding plagiarism in the process. Turnitin is a service, and can be used by students to check that they have synthesised information and composed original texts. If information has been replicated too closely from a particular source, and has not been adequately referenced, students are alerted to a percentage of similarity with that source. Students can then further edit their work to reduce similarity percentages.

....... submitting assessments through Turnitin provides students with an online record of literacy progress. A survey of students Turnitin users at our school showed that having access to a permanent record of personalised literacy improvement strategies resulted in increased independent and self-directed editing of work by students (Guy, 2012). Surveyed students reported that detailed teacher feedback about literacy improvement allowed them to go on to make independent progress.

....... submitting assessments through Turnitin enables students to receive prompt formative teacher assessment of task progress. Research shows that early feedback which provides explicit literacy cues and reinforcement makes learning visible to students. To be effective however, teacher feedback must be clear and meaningful to students in order for them to edit their work accordingly (Hattie, 2009).
