<title>Michael Beitz - Contemporary Sculptor and Installation Artist by Michael Beitz</title>
      <link>https://padlet.com/michaelbeitz/About</link>
<description>With a prominent presence in contemporary art, Michael Beitz is known for sculptures and installations that relate to the form and function of traditional handcrafted furniture. Michael Beitz’ large-scale works are both playful and thought provoking, as they explore issues of intimacy and distance between people and their surroundings.

Mr. Beitz design framework intentionally disrupts the meaning placed on items we use on a daily basis, such as picnic benches and sofas. With “Not Now,” a 28-foot-long sculpture and wood dining room table, he places a full twist in the middle that upends the table’s social purpose and accentuates a sense of isolation during shared activities such as eating.

Mr. Beitz’ pathway to contemporary art included a number of years spent working with Wendell Castle, an acclaimed presence in 20th century furniture art. Among the prominent exhibitions he has been involved in was the 2015 temporary installation Dismaland by Banksy, which mirrored an amusement park in scope while addressing urgent social issues. Michael Beitz has also completed major commissions, such as “Just Wait” for a private Hong Kong art space and museum.
