1. What’s your impression ok this subject? My first impression is i’m so freak out and happy at the same time cause i feel like my knowledge is opening widely and i can be more recognized on what is important to do and pick and what is temporary things and not too important to pick.

2. Does this subject help you to understand your life (your environment) better? In what points? Yes it is, in every subject matters starts from the circuit of culture to post modernism and marxism.

3. How do you see many cultural phenomenon surround you before and after taking ICS class? I think most of all from my lifestyle especially because i think at the first that i going to live my life enjoyable and don’t give any second to care what is the negative and positive to me but after taking this class i’m pretty sure that i have to observe every little things that i’m going to take such as things that i want to wear or buy because if its not having any advantages for my life in long-term circumstance then why do i have to.

4. What’s the point in ics subject that extremely change your view? I think all of the subject because each of the subject has their own right itself and because of that i can choose to live the life in better ways. And each of the subject itself teach me how to be selective and think twice what is the benefits for me in long-term situation and condition.

5. What’s the point in ICS subject that you really keep in mind? The simulacrum because i have to find what kind of things that actually real and fake because its affected for my life.

I love this subject. I really enjoy learning ICS because it is so interactive and the lesson is about daily life related to culture. 
This subject also helps me understand my life because by learning ICS I can know many cultural phenomenon in the society.
Before I take ICS class, I see cultural phenomenon just as phenomenon. But after I take ICS class, I can see cultural phenomenon in many aspect and I can identify it whether it belongs to pop culture, high cuture, sub culture, and others. I also can see it in deeper way such as how the circuit culture of the cultural phenomenon that happens, or how marxism or postmodernism work on the cultural phenomenon.
The point in ICS subject that extremely change my view is pop culture and postmodernism. Because after knowing so much about that, I more aware of anything I do or I did in the past.

1. ICS is impressive. I learn a lot about cultural phenomenon around me that I have never thought before. Analysing the cultural phenomenon with literature theories is interesting. This subject also have made me to think critically and see my life from another point of view. 

2. Yes, it does. This subject totally changing my point of view to see everything pleasant around me. I being more concious than before.

3. Culture is not that small like I used to think. Through this subject I realise that culture large beyond measure. 

4. I am one of Korean fans. ICS already have changed my mind. I am so glad that I have not sank deep yet to being fans of someone or something. 

5. Karl Marx theory that discuss about a person can become non-human again due to their false consciousness, and Jean Baudrillard theory about something is no longer being original (simulacra) and it causing hyperreality for the person's life.

1. This subject opens my mind widely about my life, my environment, and of course about my world itself. Also, this subject helps me to see "the reality" behind my life (my environment). Which i mean that this subject shows the truth of my everyday life that I've never see before. Before taking the ICS class, I rarely care about the cultural phenomenon that surround me. I don't really pay attention or feel curious about them. But then, after taking ICS class, I realize that I'm myself also a part of a cultural phenomenon itself(my individualism), and that these cultural phenomenons especially in this postmo era have some great impact in determining our country's future.
 ICS extremely change my view about everything that I see in my surroundings. For example, when I watch the tv and see the advertisement, I unexpectedly try to see what's behind the ads, or when I watch the cartoon or movie, I get to think the idea or the secret message behind them.
In ICS the point that I really keep in mind is about marxism, and hyperreality. Because I try myself not be an "allienated" people, and try to face the real world without faking anything as much as I can.

Ever since the first time i entered the class, my lecture said that this subject would changed our perspectives on everything we see whether it's from written or visual media. It sounds challenging to me as a millenial generation to apply the theories i would learn in real life condition. i wasn't sure at first but i do believe her words now. often times, we're fooled by the media and we need to raise our awareness and be selective towards everything we read, see, and watch in the media.

2. This subject does help me to see everything in my life in different perspective. i realize how i was a fool in the society for easily believing what i've seen, and this subject makes me aware that as a part of society, we shouldn't be easily ruled by those who have the power. we have to be able to sorting out which one is good or which one is real and fake.

3. Before i took this subject, i never analyzed a case or what i've seen and read in detail. But after learning this subject, i have to be more selective on everything because there might be some terrible things behind things i've seen or read that i do not realize.

4. The time we learnt about Marxism really changed my point of view. I begin to understand that we, all of us are living in a cruel world where people would do everything for money. And this point really helps me to open my eyes to see what others hardly see. 

5. Marxism, of course. Because without learning marxism, i am as a massive fan of Victoria's Secret who likes following the updates of the model's life wouldn't realize that they are being used by the company. i thought they had perfect life, but after taking this subject, i slightly feel sorry for them, honestly. they're not as free as they seem, the fact is they're controlled although they show glamorous things in their social media accounts many times.

Since the first time, I attended the class. I was already interested with what the class called, Introduction to Cultural Studies. This subject taught me to not taking everything on my surroundings for granted, ics gave me more persepectives of how I should see all phenomenas happen in society also have stances and ideology of what I believed yet still respect other's opinion. This class also gain my awareness on every phenomena or condition in society and grows my critical thinking on seeing what is happening in the society. 

2. Yes, this subject helps me so much to gain more understanding of the society that I lived in. Such as hidden meaning on medias, how  superstructure plays important roles in the society, how I should respond to the phenomena which happens in my life. This subject also broaden my perspective on how should I live my life without being fooled by society, media, or any superstructure that unconsciously ruled my lives. 

3. Before taking ICS class, I only see any cultural phenomena as what it is without realizing what is actually hiding by the superstructure or anyone who has the power. I don't even put any of my interest on those cultural phenomenas but after taking ICS class I realize so many things such as I unfortunately always being fooled by the media or I unconsciously fallen into the hyperreality on social medias that I have and even change my perspective towards some TV shows that I previously think was good but sadly take advantage from other people to gain benefit for themselves. 

4. All of ICS subject are extremely change my view especially Marxism and Hyperreality. The focuses of these two theory that grab my attentions are how the superstructure or anyone who have power can manipulated everything even the saddest condition in society becomes something profitable for themselves. Meanwhile the subject also makes me realize that I'm a part of hyperreality because I unconsciously live in the world where everything is only the copy of the original one. 

5. Since the first time i knew that i would learn about this subject, i've already been excited. To be honest, this is my favorite subject. I've never felt so excited and eager to come to class compares to the other subjects. Im so glad that i can study and get a lot of information about culture. I think culture is an important aspect in human's life. It determines and constructs our action or even who we are. That's why i think it is very important to learn about culture and this class has been very helpful. I'm glad to see the phenomenons around the society that is of course related to culture. 2. Absolutely! As i have stated above, this subject has helped me to be a better me in understanding the environment (society and culture) around me. It affects the way i think if i'm going to do something. I no longer take things for granted.
3. Before taking the class, i used to take things for granted. I honestly didn't really care about the phenomenon surround me. I would just simply think or act based on my pleasure instinct. But after taking the class, i became more aware of the phenomenons surround me. I realized that i am a part of it, i'm affected and i could affect it. So it is important for me to know what is the right thing to respond to it.
4. The point that's extremely change my view is Capitalism. I used to think that money is everything. I used to think that clothes, food/drink, things with brand is better. But after studying the Capitalism, i knew that i was very wrong. I realized that Capitalism is very evil and damaging so that I need to change. I no longer consume things with brands which is usually very expensive. I don't wanna be trapped and live in false consciousness. 
5. The point in ICS subject that i really keep in mind is of course Capitalism and Hyperreality. I realized that I used to live in Hyperreality where i usually played online games for many hours straight and ignored my real world's environment. Cultural studies is one of my favourite courses in the 6th semester. Learning cultural studies has given me a breadth of positive values. First and foremost, it broadens my comprehension about various concepts of culture. I obtained a lot of discerning knowledge about cultural theories and phenomenon in this lesson thus I learned that culture is not only restricted to the notion of human creativity products such as literature, music, movies but it comprises way more complex things such as about the identity of a society and how the society represents themselves through the way they communicate and behave based on their values. This lesson has established my awareness to change my thinking pattern. It shapes my critical understanding in viewing an issue. It teaches me the importance of thinking further about what is behind a cultural phenomena and not only consume it for pleasure. The way the lecturer, Mrs. Ellita conducted the class is another thing that I am fond of. Mrs. Ellita encouraged her students to actively participate in the learning process such as by exchanging opinions or asking questions. This makes the classroom atmosphere become vivid. This way of conducting class is very helpful to boost our confidence in voicing our opinion and sharpen our skill in communication by paying attention to our manners when we speak to others. Mrs. Ellita also trained her students to be discipline and responsible in their study. It is proven by how she always wanted her students to review the previous lessons in the next meeting thus students really understand the concepts they have learned. Mrs. Ellita has invented interesting way in conducting the class, in order to apply what we have learned for example about the theory marxism, we were given tasks to present a cultural phenomena using this theory. We could realize that a simple case like beauty clinic carries the ideology of marxism. We apply our concepts on real case. Not only we are able to apply the theory in real context, but also we develop our analytical thinking to analyze a phenomena systematically and comprehensively. And one more strong impression from this lesson is that Mrs. Ellita shared an important advice for us to study well and surround us with the right company, she emphasized that we should not consume all information and phenomena without thinking critically hence we would not be either left or right person with their extreme and liberal ideology. 

2. Yes, it definitely does help me to view my environment by stimulating my critical thinking and openness to different perspectives about other culture. For example, I learn how to be more selective when I watch TV programs after I figured out that many television programs are not appropriate for example the reality shows that try to commercialize personal problems by blowing them up on public whereas those are only fabricated by the producers. From the two concepts of marxism and popular culture (giving us false pleasure when we consume it) that I gained in this subject, I learned how to be more critical. As a result, I avoid watching such programs and choose to watch informative programs on TV that yield me new information about unique phenomenon or even about important historical places. Another example is when I see advertisements on internet or printed media, after learning about the representation of meaning, I try to be more critical in viewing an advertisement and the ideology behind it because a single advertisement carries an ideology from the symbols they use such as when I see the advertisement of a hijab woman in close up toothpaste commercial which uses hijab woman as one of their models. It carries the ideology of equality for Muslim woman to participate in the advertising world . There is also a time when we discussed a video of a perfume commercial that made me realize signs in advertisement carry meanings and they are not only represented in the form of colours or objects but the way human walks and the way we gaze are also signs.

3. The way I perceive cultural phenomena before and after I learned cultural studies was totally different. The simplest example would be on my experience when I was addicted to have skin treatment at one of the clinics. I never knew that a skin care treatment can be an example of marxism because of the false consciousness that I experienced during having the treatment. I get more addicted and addicted once I found out the result was good and started trying another treatment like facial. After learning cultural studies, I figured out how I was deeply consumed in false consciousness as I kept on buying the products and trying the treatment in order to make me look stunning with glowing skin. I realized now that I was a victim of marxism as I was the base who is deeply affected and pursued by the superstructure which is the beauty clinic itself  to keep trying their products in order to achieve a healthy and glowing skin. I also did not know previously that the modelling industry is contains deep ideology of marxism before I learned cultural studies. I was always amazed by the beautiful looks of the models. I never knew until cultural studies enlightened me that that was only false consciousness of the model to obey the rules made by their agency such as their mandatory to have strict diet and have intensive schedule of practicing before the show. After learning cultural studies, I learned the concept of “alienism” which perfectly describes the condition of the models as they do not have any rights to determine what they have to do. They only focus to do their responsibility as a model who promote the products. Just like what Ma’am Ellita said, those models are dehumanized from their reality. The models also do not mind that because I learned that their primary orientation is money apart from the fame and pride of being able to represent the brand.

4. The point that extremely changes my view from cultural studies is the circuit of culture. Through this theory, I learned that cultural phenomenon happen because of factors that relate to each other. This concept is called circuit of culture. They involve production, consumption, identity, representation, and regulation. This concept exists in our daily life for example a game like mobile legends can be analyzed by using the theory. It is very applicable with our daily life. In the case of mobile legends, my knowledge is expanded by who is behind the production of this game, the intention to create this game, the identity of the company who invents this game as well as the identity od the players, the symbols from the games that carry a lot of meaning, the people who consume this game, as well as the regulations set by the company of the game for the players and the procedure of playing the games itself. Not only in the case of online game, the circuit of culture can be used analyzed various phenomenon such as LGBT, Newspaper, and even food products. This circuit of culture affects the way I perceive culture as an inseparable element because all elements depend each other. The circuit of culture changes the way I think and react to phenomena  surround me.
5. The point from cultural studies that I keep in my mind is about post-modernism. The theory is very relevant to our current condition. I learned about the basic concept of post-modernism such as the definition, the characteristics of it, and the differences of post-modernism with modernism. Therefore, it makes me easy to identify the characteristics of post-modernism and relate them to my daily life. For example, I realize how post-modernism promotes the greater consumption rather than production. It is proven by massively we consume not only products but also consume information and ideology due to the advance development of technology. The globalization has made it possible for post-modernism culture to spread widely in our daily life. And it is not only limited to language, but it involves many other fields including architecture and even food. The other key concept of post-modernism is hyperreality which refers to the projected reality due to excessive desire and fanatism. I can correlate this post-modernism culture with my daily life where I observe the culture of teenagers who are so obssessed with their fans. After learning about post-modernism, I realize the importance of why we should be more critical to get exposed with other culture especially in the current era because if we easily accept all culture, we would lose our identity. The concept of post-modernism sticks to my mind because it has many relevance in our era that I can correlate with especially after learning the theory, we directly implement it by analysing cultural phenomenon. Hence, my comprehension about this theory is getting deeper.

4. I’ am one of Korean music and Korean drama fans. But this subject is enough to make me aware of something I have done. Although not completely change at least from the material presented has reduced my habits or things that shouldn't I do and in fact detrimental to myself.

1.       Honestly, I really excited for lesson about cultural. I can learn a lot from the culture and phenomenon that happened around me. The subject giving me more perspective to see phenomenon and subject in my environment. 
2.       Yes, because I can get positive value and positive thing from a phenomenon or culture and bring me away from negative things from a phenomenon or culture. This subject make me to understand about my life because this subject bring me to giving more attention about my environment. 
3.       Before I take this class, I felt that I had a narrow mindset on cultural phenomena and after I take this class, my thinking was open to cultural phenomenon and this subject made my mind thinking more critical in understanding  a cultural phenomenon. 
4.       When I learn about Marxism and pop culture. Its make me to thinking more critical about the media can bring your mind to become materialism people. Because the theory giving me perspective if you buy something useless you will become a man with fatalist and false consciousness people.

  • I can say that this subject is the only class that really affect me the most since it deals with my everyday life and what I see everyday. From the first meeting of ICS class, i knew that this class would open my mind. And it really does, this subject really help me to see the phenomenon that happened in my life. Moreover, the flow and the atmosphere of the class is not boring, it is always interesting since the class is interactive and everyone could share their experience and opinion. 
  • Absolutely yes. It is really changing my view and perspective about a phenomenon, and it make me realize about how easy I can be tricked by such a phenomenon before. Because before taking this class, I always do and consume things without thinking further about the impact or what’s behind it. But now, i can think clearly about the phenomenon that happening around me and not being trapped again in the same hole.
  • Before taking this class, I saw a phenomenon just like there was nothing behind it and i didn’t  think it was important to be worry of. For example, I always follow the food trends that the millennials would say “kekinian” and always wanted to try the newest menu that the fast food restaurant launched. But now, I am already aware about what is going on around me and what phenomenon that circles us. 
  • The point that really change my view is Marxism, especially on the Superstructure and Base-strucure. I was a fan of a reality singing competition when i was in high school. I kept sending the paid text so my favorite contestant wouldn’t go home. But now I realized what i did when I was in high school. I was becoming a tool for the superstructure to get their money and I didnt realize that because i didn’t feel that I was being ruled. It really change my view about that point, that I won’t be doing such a thing like that again.
  • The hyperreality. It is really helping me too see what is real and what is not. I don’t want to be trapped in a fake world that I create myself. Now, every time I involve with something that doesn’t look real, I keep reminding myself that I shouldn’t be drown on the hyperreality.

    1. What’s your impression on this subject?
    My impression is that the cultural studies are more interested in theory. I also think that the range of topics available for study in a visual studies program is wider not just in art, but also in our life, culture, habits, TV shows, and advertising. In this subject I learn how to research and explain that brings in new perspectives to the study of culture and society.     This subject really help me how to see everything surround my live through different perspectives and i can more understand  about the society.

    Before taking ICS class, I just didn’t really care about the phonomenon surround me, and just take it for granted the phenomena that is happening, and now this subject is an extremely thought how we see the different prespective using academic theory and my primary goal in this subject will be examine the range of ways in which I might understand its meaning and attendant implications for how we theorize, interpret, and critique cultural practices. 

    4. What’s the point in ICS subject that extremely change your view?
    I think all of the subject, because while I learn this subject, I am able to explores the possibilities of transforming people’s lives by trying to understand the relationships of power whitin which individual realities are constructed

  • What's your impression on this subject? I thought that this subject will be hard to absorb and boring subject because this subject is many theories that we have to learn and remember. But, now I think differently about this subject. ICS is interesting subject because the study is related to our daily activities and we experienced it everyday. It’s easier to understand after we take the examples from our real experience/environtment.   
  • Does this subject help you to understand your life (your environment) better? In what points? This subject is really help me to understand about my life and environment. In our life,  many cultural phenomenon that is happened in society. This phenomenon is happened because there is circuit of culture that construct them. The elements in circuit of culture is related to each other. That’s why we can trace all,  about the production, consumption, representation,  regulation and identity from  one phenomenon.                             
  •  How do you see many cultural phenomenon surround you before and after taking ICS class? Before taking ICS class,  I am  apathetic and don’t really care about phenomenon that is  happening in my surrounding. After learning this subjects,  I became more curious about cultural phenomenon that is happening recently.                 
  • What's the point in ICS subject that extremely change  your view? The point in ICS subject that is extremely change my view is about pop culture. Pop culture actually is created for materialist purpose and it’s formulated so we will be fans from it. We can submit ourself and be controlled like a slave without resistence.  So, when I like phenomenon of pop culture,  I will think twice (is it useful for me?  Did I really need it?). I won’t take it for granted so I won’t fall into the depth of false consciousness and regret it later.                         
  • What's the point in ICS subject that you really keep in mind? The point in ICS subject that I have to keep in mind is that we have to be careful when facing cultural phenomenon,  especially in this postmodern era. Everything is deconstruction. The truth become blurred and far from from the reality. Many simulacrum (copy of origin) are made to deceive our mind. After we believe it was the truth, we fall into the hyperreality which is cannot differentiate between reality and fantasy. That’s why we have to think critically about phenomenon and chose wisely.  If it will affect us negatively,  it’s better to leave it.

    1. Wow it's unpredictable. I thought this subject was boring like other subjects in the school, but actually I am very falling love with this subject until forever because this subject really change my mind in everything to face surround me. The lessons that I get are very usefull for my future. To be honest, ICS is my favourite subject. It is make complicated theories easier to understand because it relate to daily live, so I am not afraid to face complicated theories because I have stronger enough lesson and self confidence.

    1. My impression is that this subject has succeeded in making me so eager to learn it. I have been interested in this subject ever since I heard stories from my seniors until I finally learned it and felt it myself, plus when Mrs. Ellita as my lecturer always said that this subject will show the phenomenas that exist around us. This subject has made me open up my mindset more broadly to what's happening to the era in which I live now on, the era where the changes are so drastic.

    2. Yes this subject really helped me at all. I am one of the fans of Justin Bieber, a Hollywood's artist which makes me familiar with circumstances abroad that are clearly very different from my own country. Being one of Justin Bieber's fans made me know a lot of information about what's happening in different countries. This subject has helped me to be able to control myself from the influence of western culture, let alone my own country has already influenced by western culture. This subject makes me realize that many of the unnatural things that happened behind this rapid development of this age.

    3. Before studying this subject, when I saw many cultural phenomenas that occured, I felt really okay even I enjoyed what happened regardless of any kind. After studying this subject, when I saw a lot of phenomenas I became more able to control myself that reversed the phenomenas that occured, there are values that cannot be seen with the naked eyes.

    1. The only subject that doesn't make me feel sleepy at class. So "entertaining" yet makes my brain dig it critical thinking more deep and deep, about social phenomenon, about value in life,about the thing that unconaciously can affect our behaviour as a human that created by God, and some "fake happines" that can damage ourself.
     
    2. Yes it does. In point of filtering what we should keep/do and what's not behind this extremely misleading era.

I did not really care, with some phenomenon that happen on the generation nowadays, on the millenial era as long as it does not affect my happy life, my comfort zone, but after I take this subject, I think I gotta change my mind. The cultural phenomenon nowadays is a thing that will lead my future world, everything happen right now formed the thing in the future. Of course, I gotta have kids, I gotta have family, and I did not want them to see and feel the false ridiculous phenomenon that happen nowadays. Such as, transgender or plastic surgery. Maybe I gotta do some thing, like taking some part in anti lgbt campaign, or have some seminar to dig more deep my critical thinking so I can share, I can know how to lead , my future child, my future family to stay in the right ways, away from the false consciousness.

    4. The Marxism. Mostly, I spend my money to did the face treatment, that unconsciously makes my skin so depend on them, I spend my time to playing Mobile legend, that makes me happy, but on the other side, all of the thing makes me poor, spending my money for thing that does not even important not really give benefits for my life.  Better to give it to my familty, or to some dhuafa, for their life, their education, for something that much much much useful.

    5.  The discussion and presentation about many phenomenon nowadays in ICS major at class, make me think wider and wider. The opinion and thought that we've been shared, make me realized, everything has changed. Nowadays, the right norms are mostly left, many people consider a wrong things as a the right one, and a right things as something that not really matter. Even my friends. Or maybe, my self. I was on that wrong position too. and the thing that I wanted to really keep in my mind is, on this super modern era, yess the world changes, the social enviromental gets so fluctuative, maybe the life are getting hard day by day, but I gotta open my eyes, too see what's really wrong to keep doing what's the right one. I gotta be  tough, I gotta have strong value about the right thing in life, to keep my self away, far away from the false consciousness.
