1. Last summer, I became a teacher's assistant for a summer camp. While working there, I've noticed every time we do school work the kids would get upset because they said it was boring. One day, we were on the subject of math and the kids weren't doing their work. So I brought life savers gummy's so they would use candy instead of numbers. For every equation they got right, they get to eat the candy they used in the equation.
2. In high school, my history teacher would make us watch national debates so we could understand what an argumentative essay is. Everyone didn't seem interested so he came up with an idea. He made everyone play a game called "Enlighten Me." He divided the class into two groups and made us debate off of real-world problems. The team who enlightened him the most wins. Everyone was into the game and never wanted the class to end.

1. When I was young, I loved to read. One day, I was reading a book called, "Dork Diaries," and I didn't understand a certain word. I asked my mom what the word phenomenal meant and she told me. After she told me what it meant, I understood the sentence better.
2. In school, I didn't understand the difference between there, they're and their. After class, I asked my teacher could she narrow the lesson down a bit more so I could understand it better. She helped me and in the end, I was able to distinguish the difference between there, they're and their.

1. I was on the way to the DMV to get my permit. Before going there, I studied so hard for the test because my piers said it was hard. So I studied day and night to make sure I understood everything in the driver's book. Then when I was ready, I scheduled my appointment. Once I arrived, I was nervous but I still kept everything in mind and took the test. In the end, I failed but I took it again and passed the second time.
2. When I entered middle school, I wanted to play a sport. So I chose volleyball because I thought it would be easy. It was hard. I didn't know how to do anything so I went home and learned the technique of the game. It was a lot to process but with training and practices, I became one of the main players of the team.

1. In high school, I had to do a group project for the first time. I didn't know what to do at first but I knew we had to work together in order for the project to be successful. Once we all got to know each other and became more comfortable, we started the project. Each individual had a certain task to complete for the project. After we all finished our tasks, we came back together and showed what we did to each other. We would remove and add things as a group and in the end, the project was a success.
2. In high school, I joined the volleyball team. At first, I noticed the team was disorganized, and everyone wanted to play certain positions that didn't suit them. The coach started to do drills to find our true positions and make us play more like a team. The more we practiced, the more we gotten better as a team.

1. In fifth grade, adding and subtracting was and is known to be the foundation of math. My math teacher told me it was important to know how to add and subtract so you could count money. Without knowing basic math, people can trick you into losing your money. When my teacher told me that, I made it my priority to know how to add and subtract big numbers as well as little numbers.
2. Just like math, reading is important too. My tenth-grade teacher told the class that there are ten dollars somewhere hidden in the classroom and whoever finds it, gets to keep it. The class searched everywhere, but couldn't find the ten dollars. When we all gave up, she took the ten dollars out of a book. She said, " If you want to hide something from a black man, put it in a book." It was harsh at first but until she explained the deep meaning behind that phrase, it became the harsh truth. The more you read, the more knowledge you gain. The more knowledge you gain, the more you expand your mind.
