William won because he had better people and more rest. Harold and his army lost because they were not prepared and had a not as good army.

Late that afternoon Harold was killed by a Norman arrow through the eye.As the battle had ended an William had won the rest of the Saxon army fled.william won because William had well trained well rested soldiers before the battle.william also prepared wood to build his castle in pevensy another advantage for William was that he had his best troops coming off the boats first when he landed.the disadvantage for Harold was that he let his men drink the night before the battle his men where also tired from fighting and marching.he also had an inability to communicate effectively with his. Taillefer the jester ran into the Saxons base and sang the early version of the song of Roland, while juggling swords killed 1-3 Saxons before being killed himself. That's when it started. The Saxons made a really hard strong shield wall. the Normans then fired at it but as i said it was, like really tough. so after the fail, Williams cavalry and foot soldiers ran at the wall but they were weak so they failed too. but then all the Normans said that William died so they were really scared but then William said '' hey guys I'm here lets do this!''
he said do a fake retreat and they did. some of the Saxons went after them but Williams speedy quick cavalry ran round and killed them. that made a hole in the (not so strong anymore) shield wall. after William realized it was weak he told his archers to fire one more time and this was not, i repeat was not a fail. it killed so many Saxons and apparently Harold too. i guess that's the end of him! so yeah, byeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

What actually happened on that day is not very clear. Harold had an army of elite Housecarls and some experienced fyrd troops. However, he had to fill out his army with poorer local fyrd, as the majority of his troops from Stamford Bridge had no chance of arriving from the north in time for the battle. Harold took his position at the top of Senlac Hill. His men formed a shield wall nearly half a mile long and a number of ranks deep. To stiffen his fyrd up he lined groups of housecarls along the line. When Duke William had gathered his army in the valley below the english position, he formed it into three main sections. On the left were troops largely drawn from Brittany. The battle started in the morning. He first major act of the fighting was when the Norman archers fired into the shield wall. This would not have had much effect as they were shooting their arrows up the hill at a group of men protected by shields.Next, the Norman foot soldiers marched up the hill towards the shield wall. Harold Goodwin had just won a splendid victory against Harold Hadar. But very soon, word reached them that William was waiting to fight him back up north. Williams army was made up of 7,500 men. 4,000 men were Infantry, 2,000 were mounted hoarse men, and 1,500 were ranged infantry. All of them were well paid, professional soldiers. william's minstrel and knight, Taillefer rode towards the English alone, tossing his  sword and sang the song of Roland .Taillefer killed three men befor sufering a painful death himself .....

the battle had began 

Harold set himself on the top of Senlac hill making a shield wall . Willam's archers  striked  first.but most arrows rebounded or flew  above there head.
then the cavelry  charged  but the horses couldn't get up the hill .

legend has it that Williams jester Taillefer rode into the Godwinsons barracs  singing a short version of the song Roland. When he got there he chucked his lance and sword in the air and killed three people three people before getting absolutely man slautered by the Saxons. And that was when the  battle started. The Norman archers struck first but all the arrows just went over them or just repelted back.

The Normans had an advantage because they had more troops including 1500 archers, some using crossbows. 4000 Spearman and 2000 cavalry

At dawn on 14th October, William and his men sett off from Hastings towards London they travel up and old Roman road. King Harold sets his up on a steep hill that would soon be known as Senlac hill which is Norman for lake of blood. William walked into battle with a religious cross that Harold swore on religious relics. Willams army had around 7500 men which make up of 4000 infantry,2000 mounted horsemen and 1500 ranged infantry. Harold on the other hand had 600 men made up from 2000 Housecarls who were professionals paid on foot  and 4000 fyrds who were poorly trained unpaid on foot.
