         <description><![CDATA[<p>Samahang Manibela Mananakay at Nagkaisang Terminal ng Transportasyon (MANIBELA) announced a nationwide transport strike from September 17–19 to protest against the corruption in government amid anomalies in flood control projects.</p><p><br/></p><p>In its announcement made on September 14, the transport group criticized the alleged misuse of public funds, particularly the tax of diesel, claiming these funds transferred to personal luxuries of politician’s families.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Patuloy na paglala ng korapsyon sa ating pamahalaan at kaugnay sa mga serye ng pagtaas ng presyo ng petrolyo.” said Mody Floranda, the National President of Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON).</p><p><br/></p><p>Two major transport sectors, MANIBELA and PISTON, will join forces in staging a transport strike, using their voice to address the current state of the country and persistent rise of oil prices, emphasizing the corruption is unbearable within public resources.</p><p><br/></p><p>The MANIBELA group stated the three-day strike is not only a protest for drivers and operators but a public call against ongoing corruption in government, stressing for transparency and accountability to ease the burden on citizens and commuters struggling with low income, high fuel prices and cost of living.</p><p><br/></p><p>Transport strike opt to go nationwide and begin at 9:00 am on the days of 17–19 and on September 21 will head towards Luneta where participation from jeepney drivers and operators is widely expected.</p><p><br/></p><p>As preparations continue, the General Headquarters Armed Forces of the Philippines are closely monitoring and have been on alert status amid the ongoing protest.</p>]]></description>
