The families would start in an ELA room where they would research facts about airplanes. They would use the paper airplane cardstock and create an AVID one-pager of this researched information.

They would then move on to the Science room where they would choose an airplane design that they think would win the contest. They will create their Airplane and write an explanation as to why they chose that design.

They would finally move on to the math room where they would test their design with two throws, taking the best of the two throws to add to the class lists. There will be class leader boards as well.

There is an option to have the students be able to change one variable if they want after their initial throws. They would return to the science room and choose to add a paper chip or some other type of variable to be able to retest. This is just an idea to engage them further if there is time.

The students would take the airplane home.
