Our theme base claim is Roger learns that lessons of right and wrong are best delivered inforgiveness and empathy. To support our theme base claim we have a direct quote form pg 6 paragh 36. The following says "I have done things too, to get things that i will not tell you and neither tell god." This relates to the claim because Mrs. Jones is showing empathy and forgiveness because she says she did bad things as well.Meaning that she shows empathy. Also she showing forgiveness because when she did something bad the person showed forgiveness, so she wanted to show forgiveness to Roger.

Averi, John, Sal, Sophia
Our claim is that Roger learns that kindness is more powerful than fear.
Our most compelling piece of evidence is on page seven, the last paragraph. Roger says thank you to Ms. Jones. That shows that Roger is grateful for Ms Jones. In the beginning he was fearful but when he found out she was really kind he was thankful. that supports our claim by showing that teaching him with kindness is better than fear

Our claim states that Rodger learns to love and trust people in the worst of situations.
Our most strongest piece was that Rodger asked Mrs. Jones if he can go to the store to buy groceries. We think that this is the strongest because Rodger just wanted to give back to Mrs. Jones. We think he wanted to give back because Mrs. Jones did a lot for him and he gained some trust from her.

Our most compelling piece of evidence was on page 7 paragraph 1 when Mrs. Jones left Roger alone on the daybed with the door open and the purse next to him. This piece of evidence best supports our claim because it shows how much she trusted him. It also shows how she trusted him and how that gave Roger more faith and trust in her. On page 5 when Mrs. Jones asks Roger if he will run, he does not lie, instead he told the truth.

Roger learns that lessons of right and wrong are best delivered in an environment of forgiveness and empathy. We know that he learned this because stated in page 3 it said "the woman didn't ask the boy anything about where he lived, or his folks, or anything that would embarrass him." This is showing that she forgave him and cares about him. Roger is definitely grateful for what she has done for him and it was a good lesson learned.
