Put everyone in place. This activity requires 5 or more students. Students should line up in a row or make a circle. Students should be far enough apart so that they do not hear the word when it is not their turn.If people are not in order, they will not know when it is their turn to say the prayer given by the teacher.

Start the activity. A leader of the group will be chosen to start the game. This person will think of a word and whisper it to the person next to him or her. The sentence should be unusual, as the idea is to see how much it changes by the end of the game. Once the term has been said to the next person, they will whisper it to the person next to them.

Continue whispering the word. Students continue listening to the word and repeating what they think they heard to the person next to them. This is done until the last person in the line or circle is told the word.

At the end of the activity, each student should have heard the word or phrase.

The teacher will check to see how much the sentence has changed. The last person to hear the word or phrase will say out loud what they think they heard. This is compared to the original word they started the game with. This is the point at which all students find out what the sentence is and how much the word or phrase has changed through their "phone line".

Example of phrases:
Call me when you get home.
I’m just popping out quickly. I’ll be back in an hour.
I’m exhausted today.
How stunning is the weather today!
It’s on the tip of my tongue but I can’t remember.
Misha walked and looked around.
My mother hemmed and hawed over where to go for dinner.
He was eating and talking.
I rinsed and dried the dishes.
Joe stood up and spoke to the crowd.

Linguistic Intelligence

Linguistic intelligence is the ability to think in words and to use language to express and appreciate complex meanings. Linguistic intelligence allows us to understand the order and meaning of words and to apply meta-linguistic skills to reflect on our use of language. Linguistic intelligence is the most widely shared human competence and is evident in poets, novelists, journalists, and effective public speakers. Young adults with this kind of intelligence enjoy writing, reading, telling stories or doing crossword puzzles.
