Benque is like this because people do so much witchcraft and the evil spirits are attracted to this town. My mother also said that the tata duende has been following me since i was born and when i was a few months old my mom heard whistling by the window while she was sleeping and she immediately knew that it was the duende and chased him away by praying and cursing at it and the last time he bothered me was when i was 14 and it always usto throw sand at my window or use my cousins name to make me go outside but i never did go outside and so i told my mom and she brought a curandera and cured the lot to permanently chase him away.

When my sister Betsy and I were kids, our family lived for awhile in a charming old farmhouse. We loved exploring its dusty corners and climbing the apple tree in the backyard. But our favorite thing was the ghost. We called her Mother, because she seemed so kind and nurturing. Some mornings Betsy and I would wake up, and on each of our nightstands, we’d find a cup that hadn’t been there the night before. Mother had left them there, worried that we’d get thirsty during the night. She just wanted to take care of us. Among the homes’ original furnishings was an antique wooden chair which we kept against the back wall of the living room. Whenever we were preoccupied, watching TV or playing a game, Mother would inch that chair forward, across the room, toward us. Sometimes she’d manage to move it all the way to the centre of the room. We always felt sad putting it back against the wall. Mother just wanted to be near us. Years later, long after we’d moved out, I found an old newspaper article about the farmhouse’s original occupant, a widow. She’d murdered her two children by giving them each a cup of poisoned milk before bed. Then she hung herself. The article included a photo of the farmhouse’s living room, with a woman’s body hanging from a beam. Beneath her, knocked over, was that old wooden chair, placed exactly in the center of the room.

When I was little and used to live back ah bush, my aunty use to tell me and my cousin scary stories, and one time she seh how the cadejo use to pass behind our house. One night we mih hia it and my lee cousin start cry caz you could hia the chains the dreg pan the ground and you could hia it the growl and i mih fraid.🤣 Also when my aunty mih younger, she seh once, she, her ma and her lee breda mih gawn find wood tha forest and my aunty ma left she in charge ah the baby and my aunty mih gawn look fih wood. when my aunty ma come back she ask weh the baby the and my aunty seh "He seh you mih the call ah and he gawn inah the forest with you" and then my aunty ma seh "no, i mih the look fih wood, how you wah left the baby fih go inah teh forest" and then my aunty ma start trip and she mih the look and look fih the baby and them gawn tha the police station fih report wah missing baby and the police seh them couldn't do anything caz it had to be missing fih wah whole 24 hours. so the next day them gawn police station and her husband gawn tha the church fih look fih the priest and then the police them lock up my aunty ma inah the cell and my aunty ma husband gawn look fih some ada man fih look fih the baby and the priest them. Bout 3 days mih pass and and when them cross the forest them had wah creek and the baby mih the pan the next side inah wah puddle ah mud. Like an other boy Ben liked to play with the children on his neighborhood. They would go unto the woods behind their houses and play hide and seek and tag like all children do. One day on their normal playday routine they went to the woods to play but this time they ventured too much into the woods and found a wishing well in the middle of the woods. "Do you think it still works?" asked Ben. "Let's try it," responded one of his friends. One of the boys took out a coin out of his pocket and threw it unto the well and wished that everyone would get a treat when they reach home. They left the woods and went to their own home. The next day they met up again and were shocked. "IT ACTUALLY WORKED!" they all said. Everyday since then they kept going and throwing coins and making wish; but like all good things it came to an end. Their parents started noticing they went into the woods too often and came back with items they never owned and forbid them from going there anymore. The children had developed an addiction to the well and started hearing voices coming from the woods calling them to the well. Ben was becoming very desperate that he escaped out of the house. He gave a loud whistle and the other children knew what it ment. They all rushed towards the woods and met at the wishing well. "Let's wish they dont ever notice we are gone" Ben said. "Yes! let's do it," the others said. "But who has a coin?" Ben asked. They all looked at each other and realized no one had a coin. ~A sacrifice~ ~A sacrifice~ they heard. A voice was coming from the well and talking to them. They all looked at Ben who was close to the well and nodded sadly. They all ran and pushed Ben into the well. Ben's head banged against the wall making a crunching crack on his neck and a large hole on his top left skull. Blood poured from his head like syrup on a pancake. The children with their hearts on their mouth held back the tears and guilt they were feeling. They all left for home with memory of their dear friend Ben which they killed on that well. They had wished for their parents not to know they ever left so Ben's parents memories of their own son had vanished. The children never went back to the woods. Many people say that if you go on a hike or venture too deep into the forest you will find the well. Rumor has it there has been hand prints sightings with blood which seems someone climbed out of the well and if you stay late at night you might find the child himself, Ben. He stayed the same way he died and many say he is always crying blood and pointing at the well before vanishing as if he is trying to tell the story of the betrayal of his friends and how his death happened.

In Belizean villages such as San Jose Succotz, the Cadejo is described as a hairy, goat-like animal or a large, shaggy dog, hence its name, which translates from the Spanish as “tangled hair”. The Cadejo is said to have the hooves of a goat, the horns of a bull, and the tail of a puma or lion, and its flaming eyes and foaming mouth give it an aura of evil. Stories of the Cadejo are told among the Maya in Belizean villages, and also in Guatemala.

This especially happens after during the death of a family member. For example, after a wake you're no allowed to go directly home or else the spirit of the dead person will follow you home. Another one is during the funeral service in the church. Family members of the dead person should walk out of the church first, otherwise the person who walked out first will be next to perish. Everytime halloween get closer and closer, the villagers of San 🤬 were very happy but at the same time they were kind of scared.
