Tame impala has influenced my creative process in many ways. One such way is his use of reverb and delay on vocals. Aswell as his genre (indie/electronic). His lyrics involve social themes such as isolation and loneliness. This has provided me with a framework to my own songwriting, and influenced my introspective and self analytical lyrical style. "The lyrics, which often touch on the stock-standard pop subject of heartbreak, are actually quite thorny and complex upon inspection." (Poe 2021)

Bon Iver

Bon Iver's songwriting has influenced my creative process by changing my idea of song structure and writing shorter songs. He uses space in his songs, such as long instrumental passages and unusual lyrics. He uses experimental sounds. He sings about love and human relations. He uses pro tools on his laptop and he worked at a remote location in his Dad's cabin, Wisconsin (Deusner 2007). He also uses some unusual recording techniques like not close micing the drums. His later work contains a lot more electronic and experimental sounds.

Supertramp

Supertramp was a pop/rock band formed in London, England 1969. They mixed the tuneful melodies of brit pop with sounds of progressive rock (“allmusic” 2015) Supertramp's influence is obvious in Tame Impala's work. This is evident through the use of falsetto vocals, rock instrumentation and vocal harmonies. Lyrics about love and the concept of "strangers" is a frequent topic for both Kevin and Supertramp's music.

Bees gees

Bee's gee's disco influence can be heard all over Kevin Parkers work. The disco drum beat of songs "the less I know the better" and "borderline" are influenced by tone and feel by the bees gees and other 70's disco acts. Kevin Parker stated that "listening to the bee gees on drugs" inspired his 2015 album currents. (NME News Desk 2015)

Kanye West

The first major connection of Kanye and Justin Vernon is "lost in the world" by Kanye west, which samples Bon Iver's "Woods". Kanye West stated that Justin Vernon is his “favourite living artist". (Moore 2016). The pair have worked together on numerous occasions, the most notable being "Hold my liquor" off Kanye's 2013 album "Yeezus". West also praised Vernons "friends" as his favourite song of the year in 2016 (Moore 2016).

Bob Dylans endearing and story telling lyrics have obviously had an effect on Vernons songwriting. "Full of all the classic Dylan touches like his deep storytelling lyrics and penchant for strange, changing rhythms and melodies – you can hear Bob Dylan’s clear influence on Bon Iver." (“Justin Vernon’s Favourite Songwriters of All Time” 2023)

John Prine

John Price is an American songwriter who Vernon stated was one of his all time favourite songwriters. Vernon paid homage to American songwriter John Prine in 2012, releasing a cover of his song ‘Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)’. "You can undoubtedly hear Prine’s influence on Vernon’s solo releases like Hazeltons, which was written before Bon Iver’s debut album and is a testament to Vernon’s country-folk inspirations." (“Justin Vernon’s Favourite Songwriters of All Time” 2023). The most common link I can hear is Justin Vernon's country folk style guitar playing, which you can hear on both his solo work and Bon Iver's Debut "For Emma Forever Ago".

Pink Floyd

Tame Impalas sound is heavily influenced by the psychedelic rock of the 60's and 70's (“Tame Impala – the Vogue” 2015) of which pink Floyd's music was an exemplar. “Kevin Parker is a pioneer of psychedelic rock,” says Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. (Parker 2014) You can hear pink Floyd's prog-rock influence all over Tame Impala's 2012 album "lonerism", the album has many instrumental breaks and jams, "enders toi" is an example of one such track.
