This self-assessment tool was used for development within telenursing. According to Johnson et al. (2015), background studies have shown individuals that work in a workplace that deals the contact with other people are in need of communication competence, especially in telenursing. A self-assessment tool was designed by experts which was an assessment that had two phases. The tool was used as a self-direction, feedback and coaching tool to prepare individuals for various ways people may communicate in the workplace.

Steven Beebe (2007) defines communication as being able to facilitate and engage in discussion, give feedback that will benefit others, and have skills that will help perform someones job more effectively. In the workplace, the goal is to get the job done the best way possible and while doing so, you may have to work in a team so communication skills should be present. According to Giromini et al. (2016), interpersonal competence is crucial and a cause to why their is poor social functioning in society and the workplace. They see interpersonal competence as being able to communicate properly in several situations.

He's more interested in socializing rather than focus on the work. One of his team members asks him regain his focus and get the assignment done and Jerome reacts in an irate manner. Outside of the classroom, Jerome and his plan to meet to do their assignment and he doesn't give them any knowledge that he won't be showing up to assist them. Even though Jerome may do his part of the assignment, he realized he needs to communicate with his team better and in a more understanding way as well as communicate to them when he isn't able help them physically. That way they can successfully get the assignment done.
