Cultivation Theory

I chose the cultivation theory because it argues that media shapes a person's sense of reality. I know that through the event I was planning with the business this theory is perfect. They want to have this event only for the fact that it will draw attention to not only the brand as a whole but the dealership. These people will be sharing their amazing experience on social media which should lead to more business for them down the road.

Social Penetration

The theory describes how a person's self disclosure is similar to layers of an onion. Beginning with small talk then leading to more intimate information being disclosed. In my client meeting which was with one of my colleague's there was a bit of awkwardness at the beginning because we had not seen each other in a long time so we began with small talk which then lead to the purpose of the meeting regarding feedback on work related items followed by the discussion of a potential upcoming event. Towards the end when we began to wrap up the meeting we continued with small talk that went off topic and it led to a conversation regarding fear of death. This would be considered the stable stage of the theory because it's the most personal.
-Anahi

The Social Penetration theory I believe was observed during my initial client meeting. However, I do not feel that we really spoke about too many personal intimate details about each other. The initial meeting was more of an opportunity to connect with this individual as it was all very business oriented from the beginning. I believe that we were in the orientation stage throughout the entire conversation. Maybe as time goes on we could build a relationship that would eventually turn to more of the exploratory affective stage if the client hired me as the wedding planner for her daughter's wedding. We would then be able to share more intimate details as our relationship evolved.

Thank you.

Margaret
