Thinking against asking the United States due to wanting to only be still the almighty Germany, Arthur Zimmermann, German Foreign Minister, tried sending a telegram to Mexico called the Zimmermann Note. This telegram in a way would ask for Mexico to declare war onto the United States, if the US would declare war on Germany. In return if Germany won, they would give back the territories Mexico lost during the Mexican-American War.
