The first major event that led to America's involvement was Germany's unrestricted submarine warfare. They sunk the British passenger ship, Lusitania, in 1915, which made America realize that their interests were in danger. Later on, Germany's foreign minister sent a proposal to Mexico which asked for an alliance if America ever declared war on Germany. After being intercepted by the British, Wilson asked for a declaration of war. On April 6, 1917, America declared war.

There were three main factors that led America into going to war. The causes were the Lusitania sinking by the Germans in 1915, the German's unrestricted submarine warfare, and the Zimmerman Note, which proposed an alliance with Mexico and for them to declare war on the United States if America got involved in the war.

America starting getting involved in the war for a few reasons. First, Germany’s use of unrestricted submarine warfare pushed America towards the war. Along with that, Germany sunk the Lusitania which was a British passenger liner. America’s interests began to be threatened on the seas. Also, the Zimmermann Note pushed America towards war, with Germany and Mexico proposing an alliance that would hurt the US, because the fight wouldn’t just be in Europe but the US would be threatened as well.

The sinking of the Lusitania was a starting factor. A more direct factor was the German announcement of unrestricted submarine warfare. This affected our trade interests with France and Britain. The Zimmerman Note was intercepted by Britain and this was the final push towards war.

America got involved in the war because Germany was using its U-Boats to steal goods from Britain who blockaded them. Another cause was the Zimmermann Note, which was a note from Germany proposing an alliance with Mexico. It also said that if the U.S. declared war on Germany, Mexico would declare war on the U.S.

There are three major factors that brought America to war. First, was the sinking of the Lusitania. On May 7th 1915, a German U-boat sank the British’s liner called the Lusitania. This boat was holding some Americans. Second, the unrestricted German submarine warfare. Britain used a blockade against Germany so Germany created submarines to hopefully get across for trade. They also used these submarines to wipe out British ships. This made trading very unsafe. Last but not least, the Zimmermann note. This note contained a proposal from Germany asking for an alliance with Mexico against America. This scared the America because Mexico was right under us so that would make the war much more dangerous.

Factors that caused America’s involvement into World War I was the Zimmerman’s Note and Germany’s announcement of unrestricted submarine warfare. Germany was falling short of supplies and needed to gain more. Thinking against asking the United States due to wanting to only be still the almighty Germany, Arthur Zimmermann, German Foreign Minister, tried sending a telegram to Mexico called the Zimmermann Note. This telegram in a way would ask for Mexico to declare war onto the United States, if the US would declare war on Germany. In return if Germany won, they would give back the territories Mexico lost during the Mexican-American War. Germany also started to attack passenger ships that held United States citizens and resources, which also led to the United States declaring war.
