Archduke Franz Ferdinand was next in line for the throne of Austria-Hungary. A country that was just south of Austria-Hungary was Serbia. Serbia needed a chunk of land the Southern Austria-Hungary because the majority of population were Serbs. Serbia asked ruler and next ruler if that would be possible, but they denied. Due to the denied offer, Serbia looked for revenge. A Pervious attempt of getting revenge on Franz Ferdinand had failed, so Gavrilo Princip took care of that. On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife from a moving vehicle killing both of them and starting more serious conflict later on. Conflict that eventually came along was the start WWI.

The beginning of Trenches started during WWI, partially in France and Belgium. The purpose of the trenches was to protect soldiers and to keep away from machine gun and chemical warfare. These trenches were horrible. They were filled with rats, diseases, injured people with horrifying infections, and everything gross you can imagine. The construction of them were deep and in a zig zag pattern.
