Supporting Evidence:  “the United States Mint produced two varieties of the Flying Eagle penny. Both have the same image of an eagle on the front and a one-cent designation surrounded by a wreath on the reverse side. Next came three varieties of Indian Head pennies, on which Lady Liberty wears a Native American headdress. These coins were made from 1859 to 1909.”



Elaboration:There were many variations of the penny over hundreds of years. Elaboration: The penny holds an immense amount of sentimental value and is considered a part of American culture. Its iconic presence in history is a reason we should keep the one cent coin in our daily lives.

Elaboration: Based on this, we can assume that the penny has an intricate history. The penny symbolizes our country’s beginning and has sentimental and patriotic value. 1. Supporting Evidence: “The first penny in the series was created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. His face has remained the same over the years; only the opposite side of the coin has changed.” ( Paragraph 5 ) 



Elaboration: Because of this we know that the penny has a historical significance in the U.S.  Being created for a anniversary of arguably our greatest president means that it has a special significance for us. Therefore, we should not abolish it.
