This painting is a nature scene. The bottom half of the painting is of a stream. The bottom center you can see where the water trickles over the rocky ledge into a pool beneath. Drinking from the pool is a single doe. Either side of the bottom section of the painting is dry land beneath a rocky ledge. Above the ledge in the upper half of the painting, trees can be seen outlining the path of the unseen stream. Some of the trees are turning colors while some are still green. Above the tree line there is a cloudy and hazy sky. The warm colors and the presence of the deer imply that the painting may be set in the morning.
