(Manipulative/Observant)

Example:
Yesterday in class we were able to group up to look over each others lesson plans. We were able to converse about what we seen differently between each others lesson plans. From there we were able to see what we did wrong verses what each of us did correctly.

I volunteer at an inner city school and work with five year olds. I've noticed that when a student who tends to catch onto the lesson faster is grouped with kids who didn't quite get the lesson. This allows the student to retell the lesson to the others. This shows us that the student has comprehended the lesson well enough to reteach it.

(Articulative/Reflective)

Examples:
Student A is a kindergartener who attends an inner city school. Student A was taught nouns is class earlier. The teacher expressed that a noun is a person.place, or thing. The teacher provided pictures of different types of nouns. Student A started given answers after the teacher said the definition if the noun. Student A is a visual learner so she was able to construct meaning of what noun is.

Student B is also a kindergartener who attends an inner school as well. Student B was approached with counting in their math class today. The teacher knew that student B was a tactile learner. so the teacher used cubes as a way to help student B understand the lesson. Therefore since the teacher knew what type of learner student B was they were able to grasp the concept of counting 0-5.

(Collaborative/Conversational)

Examples:
Students who work in groups feed off of each other. For instance, In math class today we were able to group together to look over math problems. We were able to point out what each other didn't get correctly. Some of the students who knew what to do, retaught the others and vise versa.

In fourth grade I remember that my teacher would not let us work together on a packet she had made. I personally was struggling on some of the word problems because I didn't write understand what the question was asking. Working individually is where your flaws really shows when test time comes because you can't work in groups when taking a test.

(Complex/Contextual)

Examples:
I take a class in Collierville and the teacher brushes through the lesson. The students don't write nothing down and the teacher gives us the answers to the test. Therefore, we don't really learn nothing in that class.

Back in Highschool my English teacher would give us answers to the questions. She would explain herself but she wouldn't go into it that deeply, which some students needed.

I was able to find answers for myself, and I also set certain expectations for myself to achieve.

My younger brother is in 8th grade and they have their own computer to take home. On that computer they are to do their homework as well as any projects. This teaches him to find answers to questions for his research paper as well as adapting to the computer.
