The boys constant battle between staying civilized or letting their inner savage over take them reoccurs often. When Jack broke off from the group to form one of his own, it shows him leaving civilization and entering into savagery. The other boys joined Jack and they become hunters, slaughtering a pig and eventually being joined by Ralph and Piggy and partaking in a tribal dance. In the process of the boys leaving the area of the island that kept them civilized, they became savages and lost their identity. Reenforcing the question from our anticipation guide, "In order for human beings to function, they need to be part of civilization."
