The character trait I used for Beneatha is bold! She is bold because she speaks her mind and doesn't feel bad for it. "I mean it! I'm just tired of hearing about God all the time. What has he got to do with anything? Does he pay tution?" (page 50). Beneatha speaks her mind about God in a room full of family who grew up giving praise to him for all he has done. She doesn't care what someone how people would react when she says things because she feels as though she shouldn't sugar coat anything. Beneatha says how she feels no matter where she is nothing will stop her.

The second character trait I used for Beneatha Younger is confident. I chose confident because she believes in her dreams and persuades everyone else that she will achieve them. Beneatha assures everyone that she is going to become a doctor no matter what. In A Raisin In The Sun Beneatha states"I'm going to be a doctor. I'm not worried about who I'm going to marry yet- if I ever get married" (page 50). She attends college throughout the play chasing her big dream. Although her siblings doubt her she never loses faith and believes in herself.

I believe Beneatha is a good person I know she he has a huge ego but she genuinely tries to be nice. I sympathize with her because I know it's hard to believe in yourself when your family doesn't. Money is tight and I think her attitude just helps her coupe with things. Although everyone is going through something she will get through it because I believe she is a strong person.

This piece of art shows a strong black women. It relates my character because that is exactly what she is. She has beaten all the odds that were up against her! Being a women made things 10 times harder, but being black on top of that was a bigger burden. Beneatha was confident and determined like the woman in the drawling and you can see that.

The poem by Maya Angelou titled Black Woman stated "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated" which is very influential to my character.
This quote relates to Beneatha because she goes through many trails and tribulations but never fails. It gives hope and motivation that she will survive every hardship and end up on top. Beneatha faces many hardships but it never gets the best of her.

A theme in A Raisin In The Sun is dreams. All the characters have a dream but it's something that's holding them back. "Big Walter used to say, he'd get right wet in the eyes sometimes, lean his head back with the water standing in his eyes and say 'Seem like God didn't see fit to give the black man nothing but dreams- but He did give us children to make them dreams seem worth while" (Hansberry). This quote relates to the theme because mama just wants her family to be able to chase their dreams. All her children wants to do something with their lives but the lack of money does nothing for them. But a dream is a dream and you can always have hope in that dream. That one day it will succeed and follow through. Her kids are having kids and overall she just wants everyone to live a good life. Not having to worry about where the next meal will come from, how a bill will get paid, or even if Walter should give his boy a little spending money.
