Online buddy work? I am using online materials for myself but haven't had the students use anything online yet.

5th Grade: The curriculum is overwhelming. I have a hard time navigating both the hard copy teacher guide and the online teacher guide. The students are not loving the lessons which makes it hard to keep them engaged. How can I make lessons more exciting/engaging?

5th Grade: Some students have enjoyed learning about the different civilizations. They thought the creation of man story was interesting and funny. Students say there is SO much homework. Another student said it's hard going from reader to workbook and flipping pages (the online version is much simpler to follow). Most students said the nonfiction pieces are not engaging the readers. They get overwhelmed trying to focus and absorb all the information.

They like some of the poems (Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf"- some are just too above grade level and they have no background knowledge (Harlem) so they are not as engaged.

What I've seen online for the students was basically vocabulary work, online workbook pages and our poetry book pages.

When and how do we take grades on their work? Are the assessments at the end of the unit the only grades?

3rd grade Students like doing the web activities where they are writing facts about each animal group. They also liked looking at the web cams and writing down info about the animals they were observing (I had to search for many of my own because the web cam was either not working or the animal no longer had a cam). Students like working together in groups, and learning about the different animals.

They also enjoy sharing their poems with their peers and helping each other when they are stuck in their writing process.

3rd grade - I've been typing the vocab words with definitions for students to put in their notebook. I have the definitions mixed up, so the read over them and decide what definition goes with the vocab word.
