Ulas - Autism

Various resources such as the presentations, information worksheets are filled with chunks of writing and poorly placed images that make the pages very busy. These chunks of writing can be quite dramatic for someone who isn't fluent in a language to read through, and although images could support Ulas in referencing words to images, the placement of them will disrupt the layout. Therefore, images/ illustrations must be placed with a purpose to support associations with the writing.

Similarly, the 'fill the blank' worksheet is focusing on your English skill rather than recalling information. Ulas could understand the answers but not be able to emphasise it onto paper due to a potential smaller grammatical level that he has. Therefore, I would avoid using this sort of method for recollection as anyone with a lower grammatical level could struggle to place the words in, and since being able to use them in a grammatical sentence is not in the lesson plan, a focus should be on other resources that can help with ensuring a child understands the meaning of how a volcano erupts.

In relation to the cut and glue worksheets, I believe this could support Ulas due to his slight restlessness that is discussed in class. He is observed to shout phrases otherwise he fidgets, and so have a task that is primarily motor based could be a great support to keep his mind stimulated throughout the tasks. It also supports English not being a first language.

A lot of the tasks are solo based, but more effort could be done for sheets to be completed in pairs/ groups/ tables which can encourage the socialisation of Ulas with his classmates. It has been observed that he struggles with communication and a lot of children believe that he is aggressive due to his playfighting nature because of WWE being an interest in him, so making the children work together could allow him to form friendships he otherwise could not form.
