On the firs class, i learned about meaning of animal physiology itself ,homeostasis concept, internal body environment, negative and positive feedback and application of homeostasis. Based on the reading and research that I make, I understand what happen in animal body by physiology. To be honest, I little bit confused about it. But I’m so glad that Dr Syakirah had given explaination about the animal physiology.

Next, on the next class, we have watched video about nervous system. Then, we need to do some activity by pairing. From the activity we know about the nervous system more details. Nervous system was divided into 3 parts which are peripheral system, brain part and spinal cord. Peripheral system has somatic peripheral and autonomic peripheral. Somatic peripheral functioning as carry motor and sensory info. It connected to the skin, sensory organ and skeletal muscle. It’s functioning as muscle movement and process sensory from external stimuli. While, autonomic peripheral contain symphatic system that functioning as fight and flight and parasymphatic system that bring the reaction to normal. Besides, I also learn about the brain parts such as Cerebrum which is the largest part of the brain and is composed of right and left hemispheres. It performs higher functions like interpreting touch, vision and hearing, as well as speech, reasoning, emotions, learning, and fine control of movement. Next, is cerebellum that located under the cerebrum. Its function is to coordinate muscle movements, maintain posture, and balance. Then, brainstem which acts as a relay centre connecting the cerebrum and cerebellum to the spinal cord. It performs many automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, body temperature, wake and sleep cycles, digestion, sneezing, coughing, vomiting, and swallowing. On the nervous system also contain spinal cord which is a complex cylinder of nerves that starts at the base of our brain and runs down the vertebral canal to the backbone. It is part of the body’s collection of nerves, called the central nervous system, along with the brain. In each of the spinal cord’s many segments lives a pair of roots that are made up of nerve fibers. These roots are referred to as the dorsal (which is towards the back) and the ventral (which is away from the back) roots.

For this topic, we learned from problem based learning. This activity was based conversation between Wafi, Sarah and Tina. Student was divided into groups that consists of 4 members. My group need to solve Wafi’s problem which he wants to help blind student learn music. I as the physiology student, suggest him to help the blind students learn music by using sensory organ such as ear and hands. To me this task is quite challenging because I as a normal person doesn’t know how blind people feel. But thankfully I know how to help them in future. I’m so thankful that I born as a normal person who completed with all sensory organ. From the activity that had been carried out, I learned many things such as how sensory organ functioning. I like this kind of activity because we can discuss our idea and enhance communication skills. It’s also not as boring as lecturer just gives a lecture. I hope there will be more activity like this so that students can involve actively. Other than that, I learn about vertigo. Vertigo is a sensation of whirling and loss of balance, associated particularly with looking down from a great height, or caused by disease affecting the inner ear or the vestibular nerve. Next, I understands about ice drug and it effect. So that, I know how to handle the students who were taking ice.

After that, I can compare the structure and function of the three types of muscle tissue.

Field Trip to to National Elephant Conservation Centre, Kuala Gandah, Pahang.

The journey to National Elephant Conservation Centre, Kuala Gandah takes 2 hours and 13 minutes to arrived by bus from Tanjung Malim. This place is located in Lanchang which is a small village. The elephant sanctuary was established in 1989 within the Krau Wildlife Reserve, and is managed by the Malaysian Department of Wildlife and National Parks. There are about 28 orphaned elephants are raised and given shelter.
There are 48 students, 2 lecturer and 2 lab assistant that involved in this field trip. This trip was held on 25th November 2018. On this trip, students were divided into 3 groups that given different assignment. We supposed to do some volunteer works but unfortunately we’re quite late. The place had already been cleaned by the staff there. But, still i enjoyed the field trip because i can see the elephant in the real life. I can touch them with my bare hand. I also feed them with fruits and give them milk. I can see how they bath the elephant. Unfortunately, we can’t bath the elephant because of weather and river condition. For our safety, we can just only see the elephant from above.

There many activities that held in this elephant sanctuary. Visitor will be able to observe the young elephant roaming freely and at the same time feed young elephants and photography session. Then, video show which play about the documentary shows translocation of wild elephants to their new habitat by Department of Wildlife and National Park (PERHILITAN). After that, we can see the elephant crossing where we will have chance to see and take photograph with adult elephants (mahout). Next session is conservation talk from mahout and the elephant. They will introduced the behavior, conservation and history of the elephant in NECC. Visitors are allowed to feed, to touch elephant trunks and take photograph with the elephant while explanation by the PERHILITAN staff. But still the elephant riding is not allowed. So that, the visitors and elephants are separated by barrier.

In these elephant sanctuary, i have met with Selendang and Eli. Their leg have been cut in order to save them from the trap. It quite sad to see this situation. After a few year, Selendang shoulder was dislocated and it make it harder to walk. Soon, Selendang will totally paralyze and die slowly. I can’t really imagine when it happen to me. I really mad to the person who willing to do this thing to the innocent elephant. I hope, this will not happen to other elephant.

Along this field trip, i’m so tired, sweat heavily and dehydration because of hot weather.. But, i’m still happy that i can learned more about elephant and gather the information about the elephant. I learned about their habitat, lifestyle and how they manage to survive. I wish that i can go to this place again in future.
