For instance, it is unclear whether translation software can be used when completing assignments.

Reflection:I should reduce reliance on AI translation tools and attempt to complete the majority of assignment content through independent writing. This approach will better prepare me to handle examinations with greater ease.

Language:reflective,continuously,experience

Preparing for discussion:I think I should watch the video several more times to reinforce my understanding of the content.

Paper Airplane Task Reflection

What did I do?
Today I was working on making a paper airplane following the instructional video.

What were I thinking and feeling?
I was interested in finding out if my crafting skills had deteriorated, and I was happy that I easily completed the paper airplane. However, during the follow-up vocabulary activity, I struggled to express my thoughts in English, which slowed down my responses.

What was good and bad about the experience?
I think I did well overall in the lesson. It wasn’t as easy as it looked, because although it was a simple activity with clear video instructions and straightforward vocabulary requirements (with no strict limitations), I still faced some challenges in verbal expression.

Was the outcome successful? Why (not)?
It was exactly what I had been hoping for. Although I made a mistake in one folding step, I adjusted it later, and it didn’t affect the final result. During the flight test, the airplane still performed well.

What did i learn?
What I learned is that completing class tasks smoothly can be a completely new experience for me.

What can i do better in future?
In the future, I hope to rely less on translation tools during discussions. Achieving this would give me a great sense of accomplishment.

In Task 1, we have two famous quotes - one from psychologist Erik Erikson, and the other from rock star David Bowie.

Erik Erikson's quote from Identity: Youth and Crisis suggests people look for their tribe in society to feel they belong and stay mentally healthy. I think his view has a flaw. Sure, humans are social animals - we need our tribe for belonging. But real acceptance comes from within. You must know yourself first to understand society and find where you truly fit.

I think David Bowie's quote basically means 'get out of your comfort zone.' He's telling people to keep pushing their limits I don't see any problem with this - in fact, we share similar views. But while pushing my limits, I always make sure I get enough time to process things and rest.

1 Frida Kahlo was a painter who endured immense hardships. I first encountered her work in my university art appreciation class, where I attempted to recreate her iconic "Self-Portrait with Necklace and Hummingbird." She remains one of the most influential female artists in history.

2 Frida Kahlo produced numerous self-portraits and paintings depicting her family. Historically, art movements emerged to challenge the divinity-centered tradition, establishing portraiture as a dominant genre that unveiled humanity and asserted human subjectivity. Through her self-portraits, Kahlo powerfully affirmed her own worth—this profound validation of selfhood is precisely what makes her work so compelling to me.

3 In her works, I see her dignity and confidence—yet they also unflinchingly depict her pain and tears. What moves me most is her refusal to look away from such suffering.

4.I often paint original characters of my own creation. To me, depicting these personal figures serves as a visual diary of my growth—a medium through which I can express emotions with subtle symbolism. Recognizing this same approach in Kahlo's work creates profound resonance.

What happened?
I've noticed that I've become more active in speaking up during recent classes. Even when I don't know the exact answer or feel unsure, I push myself to try responding.

This is because I recognize that language is one of my stronger skills. Although I'm not sure if class participation counts toward the final grade, I still strive to present my best effort.

However, I still struggle with expressing more complex ideas. For example, during the recent PS1 interview, even though I learned many new words in preparation, I couldn't use them naturally in the actual conversation. As a result, my answers might have sounded rehearsed.

Why was it important?
Clear communication is vital for artists—after all, our work can't speak for itself. To ensure my art is understood in the UK, I need to develop this skill. It's also essential for thriving in daily life abroad.

What will you do next time?
I think my current participation level is steady, so I'll maintain this momentum. That said, I definitely underestimated the preparation time needed for PS1. Next time, I'll aim to sound more professional. I also plan to start an oral journal to improve fluency—perhaps incorporating it into my PCA practice.

We practiced writing-related exercises, and I noticed that I always have a strong desire to express myself. I find it easy to describe things or objects—my mind is always full of ideas when I write. However, the challenge is that despite having many thoughts to share, I often procrastinate.

My weak English foundation has become the biggest obstacle in my writing. The vocabulary I currently know is far from enough to complete a proper piece of writing.

The approaching deadline is what finally pushes me to start writing. My desire for good grades outweighs my laziness—which might be a good thing, but I can't keep relying on this habit. When I'm forced to finish assignments at the last minute, I feel anxious, uneasy, and frustrated.

I'll start my assignments earlier next time. I will definitely make a schedule to track what I can accomplish.

1. How did it feel presenting?

I didn’t prepare notes for this presentation, so I felt very nervous at first. But once I started speaking, I gradually found my flow, and I could feel myself getting better and more confident.

2. What worked (or didn’t)?

I think this is a great way to practice thinking on my feet, and it really worked!

But my thoughts weren't organized clearly enough, and my PPT didn't help remind me of my key points.

3. What did you learn (from others)?

My slides could be more visually polished, and in these presentation opportunities, I should try to share more content.

4. What feedback did you most enjoy?

My favorite moment was when Chenying asked me a question during Q&A. She mentioned some buildings that reminded me of my special memories from that place, which brought joy to the whole class.

5. What was the most helpful feedback?

Actually, I found all the feedback helpful. This kind of interaction really encourages me to express myself more in English.

Brief:

This is an interview with artist Ram2, featuring an introduction to their artwork. The pieces use young girl imagery and skeletal motifs as symbols, combining functionality with the lines of the human body. Using 3D printing technology, the artist has created a series of shelves and accessories that evoke feelings of pain and melancholy.

Personal Connection:

Since childhood, I’ve been exposed to subculture, where female melancholy, pain, and blood have always been significant themes—especially in anime and alternative art. At first, I found it beautiful, but now, when I encounter such works, I feel a sense of discomfort as a woman. Seeing girls’ bodies twisted, bent, with exposed bones and lingerie, turned into shelves—I can’t help but think: Is this how women are seen in their eyes? Why only women? I believe this shift in perception comes with my growth.

Brief:

This is a magazine interview with artist Santong. I want to discuss her graduation work A Night Ride to the DAY mentioned in the interview. The story follows a girl named Dizzy who, while sorting through her late father’s belongings, unexpectedly saves a middle-aged man attempting to burn himself alive. They share similar family issues—both have strained relationships with their fathers. To repay Dizzy, the man joins her on a journey to fulfill the unfinished wishes of the deceased, hoping to free her father’s lingering spirit.

Personal Reflection:

I come from a difficult family background myself, so I deeply relate to both the girl's emotions and the middle-aged man's sorrow. As someone whose family members are still physically healthy, I realize that working on these family relationships will be one of the most important challenges I need to face in my life ahead.

Brief:

This is a fan-creation artwork from a doujin artist, featuring characters from the commercial game Arknights.

The story explores the connection between an orphaned priest and the malevolent spirit haunting his church. To relieve the church's burden, the young priest is sent to live alone in the cursed chapel. For survival, he must confront the evil spirit using only his faith and compassionate heart.

This is ultimately a story about love and self-discovery.

Personal Reflection:

As a former Arknights player, I dislike how commercial games treat their characters like commodities—this is where I share common ground with this fan artist. Unlike typical fanworks, her creations don’t just express love for the characters; I also see her resistance, a form of pushback against the game’s shortcomings.
