Essay prompt: The best gifts are the simplest ones.

Perfect gifts do not equal to complex, expensive gifts
On your birthday party, your friends are dancing while neon lights are shining. When the light turns to the package of gifts, they are iridescent. All of them are from your family and friends. The gifts are wearing heart-warming clothes, and they are waiting for being opened. When you look at the tall pile of fabulous presents, even if you haven’t opened them yet, satisfaction and happiness has already occupied your heart. This is the power of gifts! This is the real meaning of gifts! This is the purpose of gifts! You are happy and satisfied because of the fact you are receiving well-prepared gifts from your family and friends. Gifts might not be expensive or complex. Usually, the right gifts are the simplest ones. Sometimes, gifts make people happy. Sometimes, gifts help people. Sometimes, gifts help to express the real feeling of people. There are many examples proving that simple gifts can be perfect. I sent a gift to my mom on her birthday. In the book The Hunger Games which is written by Suzan Collins, the protagonist, Katniss received gifts in the games. The famous mathematician, Descartes, sent his gift to the princess he loved before he died. None of these requires the complexity of gifts.

One year, when I was a little boy, I sent the first birthday gift to my mom. The gift was a handmade postcard with naive drawing on it. When I think about it now, I really don’t think that it is a good present. It was naive, ugly, normal, and so simple; however, when my mother saw it, she almost cried. She was so moved because that was the first gift for her. She cherished the gift so much because that meant more than a gift to her. The value of the gift was that the gift made her happy. For her, that gift was as valuable as a diamond. Certainly, the gift can bring more happiness and satisfaction than any other valuables. Therefore, although the gift was simple and naive, my mom still loved it.

Nevertheless, there are more than one types of gifts. The previous ones we have discussed are gifts that bring people happiness. There are also some simple gifts that can help people a lot. In the Hunger Games, Katniss received very helpful gifts when she was almost going to die. Those gifts were usually a bowl of soup, or some medicine. They are not beautiful and valuable gifts in normal life, but in the Hunger Games, they were necessary supplies. When Katniss was starved, thirsty, badly injured, and trembling in the coldness, a bowl of warm soup with steam over it is the best gift for her. As long as the gift is given at the right time in the right place, no matter how simple the gift is, it might become the best gift for the person. When a person is in trouble, the luxury beautiful gifts will not help them. The simplest gift will be the first choice.

In addition, gifts can also help the person who sends the gift express their real feeling. I would like to write a story about Descartes, the very well-known French mathematician. He once fell in love with a girl who is a princess. Unfortunately, the king got angry when he heard the news because of the difference of their age and social status. He was deported; however, he couldn’t forgot the princess. He was badly sick, and he knew he would die soon. He tried to write to the princess; however, all the letters were kept by the king. Finally, Descartes just wrote a simple equation, which is r=a(1-cosθ). He called it “the last gift”. The king couldn’t understand it, so he showed the equation to the princess. The smart princess drew it on polar coordinates, and she found the graph was like a heart. This math equation must be like a torch which never goes out lighting her heart forever. A piece of paper with a math equation might be the simplest object we can imagine; nevertheless, Descartes successfully made it a symbol of love, and this gift became extremely meaningful to the princess.

Finally, when we look at the three examples again, it is obvious that all of these gifts are not expensive, complex, or special. However, they have one similarity which is all of them are very important to the person who receive. Being simple sometimes is more difficult because you have to use your heart, your sense, and your real feelings to make a simple gift. A gift is a symbol, and the simplest but meaningful gifts are usually adorable. As long as the gift shows the real sense, as long as the gift really helps, as long as the gift really mean something to the person, it doesn’t need to be expensive because the best ones will always be the simplest ones.

Persuasive Essay

For brighter days of Panem

On the street of District 12, people in shabby clothes are shouting and screaming. The Election Day is coming, and they believe that they finally have the chance to change their miserable life. The lack of food, medicine and information is killing them, and they shouts, “for brighter days of Panem.” Meanwhile, in a fancy lobby of the Capitol, people who wear expensive jewels are discussing and murmuring. They understand perfectly what the districts are planning and they are fully ready to fight back. The districts deserve what they have and the Capitol should control them like a little puppy. Mysterious smiles appear on their faces, they say, “for brighter days of Panem.”

I am a female candidate from the Capitol. I want to be the new ruler of Panem, and I want to bright brighter days to all the people who deserve it. I strongly recommend the constantly existence of dictatorship government in the Capitol. All the People from either the Capitol or districts need dictatorship, dictatorship work best. I have three examples to prove my point. At first, I want to talk about the good effect of dictatorship in the Capitol for the past decades. Then I will use the safety that the districts enjoyed to prove my point. The third example I want to use is the story of Katniss, how she disobeyed the Capitol and caused chaos.

In particular, I believe the smartest decision the Capitol has made in the past decades is to form a dictatorship government, and dictatorship really help. Because of dictatorship, the people in the Capitol were able to enjoy the amusement that the Hunger Games bought, the abundant supplies the districts offered and the fancy life we deserved. The dictatorship government made us stands above all the districts and gave us absolute power to control those who were born to serve us. We are not going to live a pathetic life like the people from the districts do after we have tasted the real happiness that all human on Earth could possibly imagine. We want the privileges to continue, and we want to live above the clouds for the next decades. In the meantime, I believe the District 1, 2 and 3 should consider helping the Capitol to maintain power as their duty for life. They should feel honored to be treated as a small part of the Capitol instead of a piece of junk that the Capitol threw to the wild forest. That’s the brighter days of Panem, and it’s my destiny to listen to your voice and put your benefits above everything else.

The safety of districts is another reason why we need dictatorship. Many people witnessed the chaos that the rebellion caused decades ago. Many soldiers from the Capitol sacrificed themselves to protect this country, including my grandfather. He died when he was trying to destroy the very last group of rebellion, as a result, we never be able to get his body back. I still remember how much pain my grandmother suffered after her husband died; therefore, I want to make sure a tragic like that will not happen to any other family any more. My grandfather was my hero, and he also made me believe that this country cannot be ruled by two rulers. Those people who are not well educated should not have the chance to speak out their opinions. People should have faith in the Capitol and trust that all the decisions made by the Capitol are reasonable. I am aware that some rebels in some districts are spread untrue rumors about the Capitol, but I ensure you that they are all complete lunatics. People from districts should have the ability to distinguish truth and lies, and I believe most of the people still feel grateful to the Capitol due to all protection we have offered. Those rebels are just like virus, and the Capitol would never let them spread among our faithful citizens. If I become the president of Panme and have the chance to contribute for this country farther more, I will give orders to our brave soldiers in all districts and tell them to eradicate the virus as soon as possible. If you are all willing to vote for me, I will continue offering the protection so that everyone in every district will be able to celebrate the brighter days of Panem.

Then I want to use Katniss’s example to further demonstrate the importance of dictatorship. Katniss is a tribute from District 12, and she and Peeta are the only tributes who win the Hunger Games together in the same year. She definitely challenged the dictatorship of the Capitol to achieve this, and some rebels considered their winning as a sign of weakness of the Capitol and couldn’t wait to challenge us even more. As a result, blood flowed and fire danced. The Capitol had to set up their mind to destroy District 12 so that most of people still believe in the power of us. None of those terrible losses would happen if Katniss were not able to make her own decision and play the audience by her own mind. I have to admit, sadly, although people from poor districts might have the ability to dig, farm and hunt, they absolutely do not have the ability to lead or rule. Therefore, dictatorship is the only solution. Dictatorship is meant to prevent citizens from making their own action, and we cannot move forward without listening to one ruler and one government. I want to be a president who can really achieve dictatorship and bring peace and safety to everyone in this country. Furthermore, I believe blood can only be paid back by blood. I will punish those rebels to comfort innocent people who suffered a lot from their selfish action once I become president.

On the whole, dictatorship work best and people should support that if they want peaceful life. That’s the only way to unite the whole country together again after so many deaths and fights. I want to be the first one to try, and I’m willing to take the risk of being assassinated to bring brighter days to my lovely country. Dictatorship is what I want and what we need.
