When Holden is reminded of Allie, it makes him upset and violent and his hand is a constant reminder of the loss of Allie. Stradlader asked Holden to write a descriptive composition for school for him so Holden wrote about Allie's baseball mitt. The hat is red because he is a really intense person. Allie's hair is also red
On page 37is the example of when Jane left Stradlader and Holden is nervous.
One page 17 his room is cozy and takes off his tie and unbuttons his shirt and wears his hat backwards the way he likes it.
