Police Brutality by Kenny Springs

I feel police brutality is a very controversial topic. There is a lot of police officers that are good, but there are a lot who use the badge as leverage to do what they want. A lot of police brutality that is recently being posted on social media is towards African-American people who made police officers feel "threatened" or "unsafe." I feel police officers ride the law to get what they want from citizens, just because most of us are unarmed or unwise about the law or constitution. I chose this topic because it can really be seen in many different lights, which makes it an interesting debate/discussion.

I chose this picture because it was the main sentence people protested over the Eric Gardner case and the ferguson shooting of Mike Brown. There is a thin line between being scared or trying to show control. Both officers in each case obviously had little mindset on command presence and scene control, due to the fact they both murdered innocent civilians they considered as "suspects". A lot of these cops are more ready to pull that gun out just to prove power but it shows how weak police officers can be by not using verbal communication to solve problems, instead they would rather tense up scenarios to give them a good reason to use force. Then after using excessive force and killing someone, they get off with minimal punishment like a slap on the hand. These officers need better training!!!

The reason it is challenging to stand up for right because why should people have to stand up for something that should already be happening. Why do people have to protest and say black lives matter. Why do people have to walk through the streets with their hands up saying don't shoot. Why does a mother have to explain to her child that because of the color of his or her skin they are different and judge more harshly then everyone else. Then why is when people stand up for what they think is right they are told this isn't the right time or they are getting the message across all wrong. My delivery shouldn't change my message.
Over 10,000 people marched peacefully in Baltimore and it didn't make the national news. This country was built on the concept of "no justice no peace". When people are backed into a wall they have to choices sit there and take it or come out swinging. You can condemn a whole movement because of one side. The media only shows you one side of they story. Writing speeches and marching will only get you so far. A lot of people joined the civil rights movement after they say black people getting attacked with dogs and fire hoses. If you saw someone getting cussed out would you help them? If you saw someone getting beat up would you be more likely to help them. The civil rights movement didn't accomplish its goal just because Martin gave a speech and marched. It also was effective because people were willing to give their life for something they believed in. Sometimes they only way you can stick up for what is right is with violence. The protesters are proving that we might not always be unified but we won't just allow for people to be murder just because someone decided that they had the right to take someone's life.

It is hard to be peaceful in any way when the whole world seems to be evil. Riots get the point across that people are angry or are upset about something that has taken place. Riots do not help an issue they make them worse. The last thing there needs to be are crowds and crowds of people fighting back at the police. There is already a lot going on, so rioting just makes things more complicated than they already are. What the police officers did in Baltimore was horrific, but there doesn't need to be any rioting over what happened. Freddie Gray's family already have been through enough, and they do not approve of the rioting. They want the rioting to stop.
