I think the weakness is Jim Carrey's caption he gave when he released it on twitter. The subject matter is one that is extremely emotional and provokes a strong response from the viewer. Many of his political pieces are almost comedic, but this one is an in your face visualization of the GOP's backwards and harmful policies. It accurately captures the traumatic nature of the event as well as highlighting the indifference of his administration towards the people they are detaining. The statue of liberty looks like an afterthought within the painting, but it does round out his message regarding the principles the country was founded upon. As this administration trundles on we will undoubtedly see more political pieces from Carrey. The result of the mid-term elections in November will determine if those future works contain a hesitant optimism, or a further theme of cynicism and ineptitude.
