Historical events play a role in how some literature is taught, written, and read. There are big events that have given writers a bigger idea on how to rite out a story based on that event. Like 9/11 for example that is a very real event that drastically changed everything, now there are books every where specifically written on that event, Literature goes into great detail of the events.

History shapes literature. It allows for us to have access to collective sources of lessons learned in the past. Lessons are used to influence writing. There are many books and movies about the war. This is due to the lessons people previously learned, and the desire to pass the lessons on. These lessons are shaped into modern literature.

Historical events have affected American literature by influencing the topics of the literature of the time, bringing on new ideas, and shedding light on things people were going through. For example, during the Enlightenment, many writers such as John Locke were inspired by current events that shaped their literature that is now famous today. History also affects literature by people writing their stories of what they were going through at the time, such as Frederick Douglass, who wrote about his life as a slave.

For example, during the "Enlightenment" period of history, people became very interested in the rational, scholastic-type approach to Christianity, were everything is to be analyzed by rational speculation, rather than experience. Therefore, this philosophy probably ended up influencing many writers who otherwise would not have had that type of approach, but now they do, having been influenced by these people.
