Hello, and welcome to my podcast episode on Holding Space in Nursing. My name is Olabimpe Elizabeth Adanikin, and I am a nursing student who is currently enrolled in NURS 2021. This podcast reflects on five important themes from my learning experience this semester: topics that emerged as challenges for me intellectually, emotionally, and relationally. Each topic extended my knowledge of the nurse's role in maternal-child and mental health care. Over the next fifteen minutes, I will discuss the themes that have influenced me the most, the curated artifacts I developed, the databases I engaged with, and how each theme has shaped my developing perspective as a learner and future registered nurse. My reflections are grounded in relational inquiry, which has become a lens that I prioritize in my nursing approach. This is not just about what I learned; it is about who I am becoming.

Hands That Hold Hope: An Ode to Nurses

This poem represents my journey as a nurse: from caring for seniors in long-term care to walking with those who’ve lost their homes. For me, nursing isn’t just about medications or assessments. It’s about being fully present; emotionally, spiritually, and humanly.

This term has deepened my understanding of the relational side of nursing. I’ve come to see how much power there is in simply being with someone in their most vulnerable moment. It’s taught me that nursing is both a science and a sacred calling.

I hope that my future patients remember that I treated them with respect, even when they couldn’t speak. I hope my colleagues see me as a team player who led with compassion. And I hope my community sees the care I give as grounded in love, empathy, and dignity, because that’s what nursing means to me
