I  teach them early in the year how to sign it without making a scene. If they disagree with it or want to explain themselves they can do it after instruction when I am available.

I have noticed that my POSITIVE phone calls home are something so unexpected, that they work wonders! Sometimes it is the child who does the right things ALL of the time and sometimes just a quick phone call to parent I have communicated with before about behavior to say "Your child is doing so much better - they did so and so this week."
Positive calls home take just a few minutes out of your day and makes everyone feel better! 
Susan]]> 2018-10-15 13:48:54 UTC https://padlet.com/cwaller11/wtik2tiw9vyu/wish/292814644 ksawyers https://padlet.com/cwaller11/wtik2tiw9vyu/wish/295587940 I have found that it is important for students to have opportunities to explore objects  and think of their own ways to use them before introducing the skill.  Having this time to explore the objects gives students time to try the object out in their own way and timing. This time also allows the teacher  to observe and evaluate the students various levels of motor development. Once the exploration time ends students will be ready to listen to information from the teacher because they have had some time to use the object the way they wanted. This strategy cuts down on off task behavior when using objects.
