I think the symbolism of "crystal stair" is supposed to mean the road of life. The rich and mighty most often have those stairs; Life's easy for them. But for other people, life's harder, and the stairs are made out of wood. They hurt you, and it's hard to walk forward, and go on in life; Life isn't so easy. I think the woman is saying that she has climbed to stairs, pushed on with life, and she isn't about to stop climbing them any time soon. You should face those stair, and embrace them. You should NEVER stop climbing.

- At first, the mood is sad, almost depressing. I think Hughes feels contained in his own self, like he feels that he can't do anything; The walls prevent him from doing anything. By the end, though, the mood is happier. It feels like something great is going to happen, and adventure is going to start. It may not be easy, but it will change the world.
- I see the world as a place that is advanced, but still needs more advancing. Change needs to happen, and sometimes it's like people are preventing it from happening. If change is coming towards you, you shouldn't turn and run away. You should just keep walking.
- I would like the world to see me as a hard worker, someone who is never willing to give up, and that will run into anything to do something, to achieve something, and yet is still around of their surroundings. I want to be known, if only to the people around me and not across the globe, and I don't want to be invisible.
