Child discipline is an integral part of child-rearing that teaches children self-control and acceptable behaviour. All too often, however, children are raised using methods that rely on physical force or verbal intimidation to punish unwanted behaviours and encourage desired ones. In many cases, rather than being a deliberate disciplinary choice, such violent methods are used as a result of parents’ anger and frustration, or lack of knowledge of non-violent responses. Violent discipline can take two forms: physical (or corporal) punishment and psychological aggression; both types are violations of children’s rights. Physical discipline and psychological aggression tend to overlap and frequently occur together, exacerbating the short- and long-term harm they inflict. The consequences of violent discipline range from immediate effects to long-term damage that children carry well into adulthood. Moreover, research findings suggest that even mild forms of physical discipline are harmful to children.

You cannot single handedly blame the banning of corporal punishment for the rapid rise in crime. There are many factors, and there is nothing that definitively shows that there is a link between the banning of corporal punishment and the rise in crime. There are many things that have changed and the rise in crime is a combination of some or maybe even all of these factors, things like increase in population, increasing living expectations, the poor and the rich living in a close proximity. We should not bring back corporal punishment on a whim that it may possibly decrease the levels of crime.

It is inevitable that bad classroom behaviour will filter into life outside school. You only have to look at the crime statistics to see that crime has increased dramatically since the abolition of corporal punishment. Between 1981, when corporal punishment was legal and in 1997, after the abolition of corporal punishment, there was a 67% increase in crime.

"My earliest memory of my mum's temper is from when I was a toddler and she was throwing books down the stairs at my dad. I was so young at the time that I thought it was a game."When my dad moved out, when I was 5 or 6, her aggression turned on me."Over the years, my mum kicked and beat me, throttled me, threw me down the stairs and pushed me into a scalding hot bath. She once held my head under water and another time she shoved a full bar of soap in my mouth. There are too many incidents to recount."Even though she could be really nasty, she could be loving too. It was just that you'd never know when she was going to flip, get angry and start screaming at you. Sometimes after a flare up, she'd be apologetic; other times she'd accuse me of starting it. Sometimes she'd pretend it never happened

21-year-old Jonathan Douglas Richardson of Smithfield, NC has been arrested in the torturing of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter. He took the girl to the hospital Friday night claiming that the girl had “fallen out of bed”. Like I’m sure they haven’t heard that before. The girl had severe head trauma, cuts and bruises all over her body and evidence of sexual abuse. Polic e in Johnston County are saying it’s the worse case of child abuse they’ve ever seen.I’m sure you’re asking where was the mother. She was in New Mexico training for the Army Reserves. So while she was training to defend our country Richardson was allegedly torturing her daughter. Then again she had only known Richardson for 6 months and the baby daddy is in jail on drug trafficking charges. Richardson himself has a previous record for assaulting a female. The living conditions weren’t so great either as they were living in a barn owned by Richardsons’ grandparents that only had an air mattress and no running water. While the ultimate responsibility of what happened to this girl lies with Richardson, some mothers do need to find better boyfriends.
