In an excerpt of significance from In Cold Blood, Perry Smith seemed to like to be the center of attention. "Perry, flattered to be the subject of this sermon..." Just part of this sentence from page 44, gave light to some of Smith's personality. I've elected to share this because it helps pave a path of how the plot pans to foreshadowing as we reach closer to the end of the book.

"A timid pious, delicate girl." was used to describe Bonnie's best or more desirable traits to Mr.Clutter. These traits are all describing a submissive women, it comes off as almost as if all she's good for is being submissive. This could be a simply a reflection of the time period, especially considering this was written by a man when men back then typically wanted women who would be good little housewives and do as they say. It could also be like that to get angry feelings out of female readers. Or to hint maybe as to why she flourished when alone; when living with Mr. Clutter she was expected to lack independence, when it's something she thrived off of, by her sole purpose in that house was to take care of the house and kids.

“The black Chevrolet regained the Highway and hurried on across the countryside imperceptibly ascending toward the colder, cracker-dry of the high wheat plains.” The use of the black Chevy through part one is huge symbolism. The black is a cold and ominous color to use. It shows a pulling down and an almost Erie feeling. On the way to the clutter house, it rings very loud.

My connection to this paragraph is more the feeling than the murder part.
The way this passage connects to my life is when I was in kindergarten. It was a regular day I got up, got dressed, and went to school, although not everyone made it to school that day. On the morning of March 12th, 2012 at 7:30 in the morning. One of my good friends was on her way to school that morning, but she never made it. That morning there was a bus crash on the way to school, two dead, many injured. So the way the connection is made is that in the book In Cold Blood a family was murdered and people were left heart broken, well my friend died in a bus crash and I was left heart broken.

As soon as he says this he switches the topic so you are left on a cliffhanger wanting to know how he dies. It is a very strong sentence to keep it exciting.

In a paragraph from In Cold Blood, it is being describing what Nancy looked like when she was dead "Well, it was pretty bad. That wonderful girl-but you would never have known her. She'd been shot in the back of the head with a shotgun held maybe two inches away. She was lying on her side, facing the wall, and the wall was covered with blood". This entire paragraph shows how we have been reading about Nancy and the entire clutter families' personalities, likes, dislikes, and everything, and now we are described to them how they were murdered. It makes the murders much more dramatic and saddening when you somewhat knew the people who this was done to, and you know that the killers have little remorse. These people were also real people, too. It makes you empathize with the other real people who were friends or relatives of the Clutter family, but it's likely only a fraction of what they felt.

On page 5, the quote, “Four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human lives.”In actuality, only four people have died during the murder of the Clutter family. However, the line says six human lives ended- adding two more people, those two people most likely being the murderers, Dick and Perry. I say this because, when Dick and Perry decided to commit murder and hide from the cops, their lives also have ended as well.

I think Mr.Clutter may be sick or suffering from something because when Nancy was suspecting smelling smoke, he was also there but he did not notice that, also he was getting life insurance. This is why I think that, also when he was murdered he was the only one with his throat cut, it can be that they were trying to get information out of him about the money, etc.
