In this quote, it portrays Eddie as guilty and mad for living a boring life. For staying at the pier his whole life. The blue man reassures him that no life is a waste because he got to live his life he got to experience growing. As the five people he killed didn’t because of his actions, they received deathly consequences, a part of fairness.

He knows he is there to teach Eddie his life lessons and is showing that by using his faith, he figured out he lived a good life. He appreciates his life and every action he took, as it is the cycle of life and shows he is very proud of his self built faith.

This quote is very important because it is saying how everyone has a little kid inside of them and for it to be brought out, means that they are finally happy. Saying no matter how old you get, you still have the little kid inside of you. The little kid likes to be nurtured and comforted which is shown in this quote. When people are finally happy with life, they act like the happy little kid they were again.

This quote sets the tone between Eddie and his mom. He is very trusting of her, and it shows. He loves her and runs to her whenever he feels uncomfortable. As he grew up she was there for him unlike his father and he cherished that. As this quote is said the tone is soft, simple and trusting. There is a lot of love between Eddie and his mother.

This scene is very important because it shows that most stories and life experiences are connected. Many people experience the same things in different fonts. Showing that sometimes you don’t realize you are connected until damage is done and you can’t go back. This scene is showing that you have to be mindful of your actions as they are impacting everyone around you constantly.

He stoped counting days, stoped caring and everything was an everyday cycle.

In this quote, the author is teaching a big lesson of life. Everyone has to make sacrifices, Sometimes even when you are losing yourself, it will all benifit you in the long run. Captain made his sacrifice so that four of his other men could live. Eddie made his sacrifice so that a little girl can grow old, they lost their life’s, but for a reason.

By explaining how all parents damage their kids, intentionally or not… it connects the text to how Eddie is damaged by his fathers carelessness and silence.

On page 141, the quote “holding anger is a poison, it eats you from inside.” Also later saying “but hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves.” These quotes hit home for me because I to once was so angry. I used to hate everything, make other people feel bad and start every day with something that pissed me off. This is an important lesson shown by ruby because it is teaching Eddie to forgive himself. From experience, it’s not easy to forgive yourself and it dosent happen overnight. Forgiveness takes time and you have to put effort into the relationship you have with yourself in order for your love for yourself to grown stronger.

Although Eddies father had a grit for Mickey, after everything he had done. Eddies father was still there to save mickeys life. Forgiving Mickey was not something that Eddies father wanted to do but knew he needed to do in order to forgive himself for all the things that went wrong in his life. Including his horrible parenting style and lack of relationships with Eddie.
