I think that the racism experienced by Indigenous communities is unknown and not thought of as racism by a lot of people. It's funny to think of how quickly people are to support people who are victims of other acts of racism, but don't seem to see how this is a blatant one. The privilege we have as settlers and what the Indigenous communities lack is so sickening. I believe some solutions can include supporting these Indigenous political leaders and holding the settler political leaders accountable. This can include signing petitions, spreading the word, writing letters to our political leaders, and more. I wish that more people would be supportive and realize the harm that's being done to our communities. We are one and we should treat each other as one.

Today, the Indigenous community has been subject to racism, both openly and covertly, whose impact is extremely dangerous and even causes their lives to be in danger. The non-availability of clean and purified water mentioned in this module is one of the clear examples of this great danger. They have also been discriminated against in dealing with disease compare to urban people, which is very unfortunate for us as immigrants. I feel so terrified that a powerful country like Canada, which fails to take care of its First Nations people, how does it want to help me in the future and protect my life as a citizen!

In my opinion, there are ways to respond to these racisms, and the most important one is to support the leaders of the Indigenous people in the federal government. They can be the voice of their suffering people and our support and expansion of methods to prevent discrimination through news and technology can be effective ways for this issue.

Saba Nouri

In this course we have learned that the racism perpetrated against Indigenous peoples in Canada started during colonization and is still being enacted today, backed primarily by The Indian act. But it's also seen in the matters of politics, in the way politicians non-Indigenous aspiring politicians and candidates to any political position will use Indigenous matters in their promises but once they are elected, they fail to fully meet those pledges or meet them halfway with excuses and no apologies. However, it is Indigenous peoples themselves who have constantly fought for their own rights. As someone who aspires to be an ally, I believe a solution that is realistic and achievable for me in this stage of my life is to talk about these issues with the people around me, educate myself and call out politicians and change-makers who have the power to change Indigenous peoples quality of life.

The Indigenous already have to go through so much negativity from Canada and unfortunately the bleeding only gets worse as they have to deal with racism too now. Not only is racism happening to the Indigenous verbally but it is affecting their personal health internally. I feel very sad even more then I was before in this course to find out the Indigenous have to also battle healthcare, probably the most important thing one has to be aware of every single day. Deaths have happened cause of racism towards the Indigenous in the healthcare which tells me how serious and how much of a poor condition they are in. Only to make things worse, kindness which is the most essential and important medicine is being taken away and has to be fought for by the Indigenous. This should be illegal in my opinion, being denied the most important ingredient in healthcare cause of racism towards the Indigenous.

As a student researching the intricate relationships between politics, healthcare, and water that affect Indigenous people in Canada, I find the obvious racism to be extremely upsetting. It is impossible to overlook the systemic problem shown by the differences in access to sufficient healthcare and clean water. For example, the length of time that boil water advisories have been in place indicates that Indigenous families' welfare has not been given enough priority. It is as depressing to witness the challenges people like Adam who have eczema experience due to inadequate healthcare facilities. In order to tackle these problems, Canada must review its policies and boost financing for basic services in Indigenous communities. Dismantling preconceptions and promoting understanding can be achieved through culturally sensitive education and awareness programs, which can help create a more equal society.

-Daniella

This course has taught me about the racism and mistreatment of Indigenous peoples over the years, but some of the things that are happening in today’s day are shocking. The discrimination and malicious treatment is illegal and quite literally against human rights. Clean water is a necessity, if Toronto or Brampton had dirty water, I would bet millions that it would be fixed, no matter the cost; why can't the government make this happen? The same as healthcare, how is being Indigenous make you less deserving of healthcare, racism to any other race is handled so publically. Politicians say they fight for the rights of all Canadians and Indigenous people, but will not fulfill their promises to Indigenous people. We should keep our leaders accountable for their promises to do the right things. Indigenous people have had to change their way of life over hundreds of years, so the very least we can do is make sure that they have basic human necessities accessible.

-Gursimran S

My thoughts on the racism faced by Indigenous communities are disturbing. It's heartbreaking to learn that many communities lack access to clean drinking water, and it's appalling that individuals from Indigenous backgrounds receive inferior treatment within the healthcare system. Everyone deserves equal treatment without experiencing discrimination or harassment when seeking medical attention. Moreover, it's unacceptable that Indigenous peoples face unfair treatment within the justice system the likelihood of police being less responsive and less caring towards Indigenous cases is particularly distressing. I believe there are viable solutions to address these problems. Utilizing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's (TRC) recommendations for schools and businesses could aid in raising awareness and understanding among non-Indigenous populations. Additionally, revising the justice system to ensure fair representation for Indigenous peoples is essential. Access to healthcare is vital as one never knows when they might require urgent assistance. Ensuring healthcare is accessible to individuals from Indigenous backgrounds will significantly enhance their well-being and that of their community. Finally, I believe showcasing accurate representations of Indigenous peoples through the media can combat harmful stereotypes and contribute toward their empowerment while simultaneously educating others.

-John Basinashvili

The water problem facing Indigenous communities in Canada, as outlined in this module, is deeply concerning. The discovery of contaminated and unsafe water on many First Nations reserves highlights a systemic issue of discrimination and ignorance. They don't have good rules, enough money, or good pipes, so the water is making people sick. The lack of binding water quality regulations, insufficient funding, and faulty infrastructure contribute to ongoing challenges, with severe health consequences.

People in these areas are facing a tough time. The government promised to fix this before but didn't do it. Families are struggling with health issues, especially kids. They're not able to use water like others, even for simple things like bathing or drinking. The stories from people in these areas show how hard life is without clean water. It's a big problem, affecting health, education, and traditions.

The government must go beyond mere promises; they need to collaborate with Indigenous communities to address the actual problems. We need to act fast and work hard to solve the problems. It's important to involve Indigenous communities, make decisions openly, and find long-lasting solutions.

I believe it's important for us to recognize the cultural impact of the water issue highlighted in our modules. The way water is handled directly influences Indigenous ceremonies and traditions, and understanding this aspect is essential. Reflecting on past mistakes is a key takeaway, stressing the urgency for the government to act promptly. Fulfilling commitments, engaging Indigenous leaders, and acknowledging historical factors are necessary steps. Every Canadian should have equal rights.

Currently, they experience various forms of racism, either overt or subtle, which is very destructive and can even lead to fatalities within them. One of the major hazards associated with waterborne diseases is the lack of clean, treated water, as highlighted in the following section. It was equally disturbing that immigrants have treated them harshly when it comes to tackling diseases compared to urban people. This country is so huge and mighty that it cannot provide due care for its people. How can such a country think about helping me in the future and protecting my life as a citizen?

I believe that such racism can be addressed, and one way of doing so will be to support the representatives of Indigenous communities during the next elections for the federal government. Significant cities would quickly resolve such problems, highlighting a structural breakdown in the provision of fundamental rights to Indigenous populations. This makes the disparity obvious.

Racism in Aboriginal communities in Canada is a serious and complicated issue. It is founded in a lengthy history of colonialism and institutional discrimination against Aboriginal peoples' social, economic, cultural, and political institutions.... The Canadian government has acknowledged the presence of systematic racism and made actions to rectify it, such as implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Sentencing reform to minimize Aboriginal peoples' overrepresentation in the criminal justice system, as well as interaction with Aboriginal communities on shared justice objectives.... Address all types of violence, racism, and prejudice against indigenous peoples.... Encourage mutual respect, understanding, and goodwill, particularly via human rights education.Ensure progress accountability through frequent reporting and monitoring. More intercultural training should be provided for professionals in diverse professions such as health care, education, and the police force. Encourage the hiring of individuals of color and indigenous peoples in government positions. Assist agencies in dealing with concerns. It is critical to maintain these efforts and to support Aboriginal-led projects that promote Aboriginal peoples' rights and dignity in Canada, as well as cultural safety, equity, and respect.

First I want to express my views on racism. This notion is wrong at all times and in all regions. I have deep sympathy for those who have experienced racism. For those issues, water resources and medical resources, it is very simple to solve them on the surface. For water resources, it is necessary to establish and repair the water supply system, and to strictly monitor medical resources. But the question is, how What about making sure these things don't happen again? That's addressing the root of these things, which is racial discrimination. This is not a issue that can be solved in a short time. The way I can think of is to tell the new generation that everyone is equal and teach them there is no distinction between high and low , so as to curb the spread of racism. This will help Only in this way can these issues be completely solved.
