I believe my responsibility as a teacher is to serve my students in anyway possible. Our education system hasn't been the best for many students and I want to help change that. Making a point to see that all my students know that I will do my best to help them succeed not just in school but in life period. Many come from poverty but teaching them how to avoid staying in it will be apart of my everyday lesson. The reading discussed political education and I believe as a teacher it's important to stress to our students that voting and the decisions they make are important to our future world. Prepare them now so that they can succeed later without us.

I believe that learning means to understand. I've always felt that you can learn something and still not retain it. When you really learn something you understand it enough to teach it to the next person. Also learning doesn't just include the subject matters. Chapter 2 talks about moral values, sex education, nutrition & health, which aren't exactly subjects. We have to realize that this is important to teach as well to students. Also in order to understand our world now and the future students have to learn our past world as well. We try to create a future for EVERYONE to succeed but we also have show our children the outcome of that. If we all were to succeed there would be to many people qualified for the jobs leaving many without jobs. Learning is life-long if you allow it to be.

I believe that teaching is about facilitating discussions that many teachers try to not to have in classrooms. For example our reading from "teaching from students lives" discusses about student's whose parents may get deported. This is really big because some of our students one day very well may have to deal with this so already being prepared for this would be good. Teaching is about taking time to create every lesson to the world in which our students are living in. Often times students question, "well how is this going to help me in the future or I'm not going to even use this later in life" so its important to show them how everything can connect. Teaching will never be just about learning within math, science, social studies, or reading but about helping the kids to develop important life skills so that they can help make the world a better place.

I believe the purpose of schooling is to help students have a better future. Educators like us have took the time to understand the history of how education was and is now. We also have learned how race, class, and religion has a part within education. In the article classroom to prison pipeline states that curriculum needs to acknowledge that their lives are important and worth studying. I thought that was so important because students need to know about themselves in order to know where they're going. Also many don't have people outside of school that know and understand the education system or things like school to prison pipeline and it's important to inform students in a way that they can comprehend how things are done.

I believe all my future students are capable of being successful. They all have the ability to progress in the year that I have them. I feel that many students don't get the fair opportunity to progress because many teachers don't have the knowledge on how to work with students who are really lacking. We have to show our students that where they come from and the lack of knowledge they don't yet have, WONT stop them. I encourage all my future students to be a great role model for their other peers. This weeks reading talked about restorative justice. I also thought about the Zero Tolerance policy and how teachers really believe that it works. This does nothing that strips away the learning opportunity from our students. They need to be given chances and more opportunities to fulfill their dreams. I believe all my future students are children I should never give up on.

I believe students learn best when they see how passionate you are about what you're teaching. I also think finding hands on activities for the child to is a great way to learn because they don't get bored as easily. I've learned that when doing these activities its important to always create it with different levels. I think they should always have a part for lower level, middle level, and higher level. This is important so that whenever any individual is doing the activity they are being challenged. I also think students learn best when classroom community has been built. When you have students in the classroom who support each other it really goes along way. Lastly I think students learn best when there's parent involvement. Just for a child to see their parent/guardian and teacher working together to ensure they have a bright future shows the kid how loved they're and that we will do anything to see them succeed.

I believe my students will learn best when I take the time to carefully create well thought out lesson plans. I think that I should also listen to their feedback on things they disliked and like when it comes to my teaching style. I also think that they will learn best if I take into consideration that they al have different needs and it's important for me to figure out how to accommodate them as much as possible. One thing I learned as a teacher that it's important to not give kids busy work. All work we give students should be meaningful. As a teacher I have to show care and determination when it comes to the kids so that they know again that I'm here for them and will do whatever I need to.

I believe community/family is a big part of a child's life. As we know apart of building a relationship with student's is knowing where they come from. Their community affects them in numerous ways. The people that surround them and the environment of the community are role factors in a child's education. It's important as a teacher to take time throughout the year to visit the areas our students come from to get a feel of what they could be experiencing when they are not with us. Also family at home is a major part as well. As I've said students who have their families behind in my opinion tend to succeed. Every child wants to have people supporting them and showing them how far they can go in life.

I believe collaboration is everyone coming together to have a successful outcome. Collaboration is also a great way to receive feedback. When you work with others that's the best way to see what you do good and where you need to improve. Its also a time where you get to learn and see others point of view. This is great for teachers because it can help improve teaching skills so that the delivery to the students is a great one. It also helps the students because they get to work with peers and learn other learning strategies that theirs peers have. Collaboration with parents is great as well because they get to see what things they can do to help their students.
