My analysis is on Walter Younger. My personal opinion on Walter is that he is slightly selfish. In the book he took the entire check from his mother and used it to invest in the liquor store. When he lost the money he stopped showing up for work. When he wasn't working he wasn't earning money for his family and that was not bothering him. He was only worried about himself and how he failed.

Dangerously Selfish
" Yes! All of it...It's all gone..." (129)
This quote among others show Walter's true selfish nature. This is shown in this quote because he is admitting to taking all the family's money for his own use. Not only did he take the money, he gave it to someone and was robbed. After he finds out about the lost money he does something even more selfish he doesn't go to work for a few days. After he messed things up he on a bender while his mother and wife work in other peoples kitchen.

Stubborn
"Get out." 119
In the book Linder stopped by to offer the family a deal. He told them that the people of the neighborhood are willing to pay them not to move in. Walter was very stubborn; he did not even consider the proposition. He and Beneatha both paid him no attention whatsoever. While Walter showed stubbornness he also showed pride. He was prideful and brave.

I chose this image because it depicts an inner struggle. Walter is faced with an array of impossible decisions and situations. While we did not see when Walter Sr. passed we know it wasn't easy. It was hard on the family as it was to afford the apartment and living expenses. Now without Big Walter there was more financial stress on the family not to mention the emotional stress. It must have been hard for Walter to have to work twice as hard and work through his fathers death.

And all I feel is pain pain pain."-Shivani Patel.
This poem about strength really ties into Walter's decision to move into the new neighborhood. He is in so much pain about loosing the money. In the text he says that there are two types of people in the world he is seeing things in black and white. The pain he is in is very difficult to understand to someone who isn't really thinking into it. He is in pain over loosing the money and over being robbed but that was just the surface. He was in pain over loosing the money that was a representation of his father being that the money was from his insurance claim. Not only did he loose the money he lost his father for the second time. So when he refused the money from the housing community he showed real strength.

This song really fits Walter's plans for his business. In the song Big Sean says that he is supposed to stay with the plan that everyone else says he should be on. But he can't because he knows he can do more. Just like Walter he wants to keep driving cars but deep down he knows that he can do better than that. He knew that if could get that store he'd be able to make it for his family. But he doesn't get the store he gets hustled out of his money.

There were many themes apparent in A Raisin in the Sun. However I think the most evident theme in the play was family supporting each other. Even after the check was lost they stuck together and persevered. Another example is when Beneatha told Mama that she really did not want to be with George and she listens. Or when they find out that Ruth is pregnant they are happy for her and Walter. The family is stronger together and they know this
