I informed all the new employees, granted in a rude way that the syrups needed to be in alphabetical order. My manager quickly told me that the policy had been changed. This combined with sticky floor, and messy store was a tipping point. I sat in my room with my thoughts. Hiding from the world in these deep gray sheets. The tears in my eyes boiled over onto the phone where my boss's voicemail played for the third time. The text “make a new group chat” made clouds of emotions whirl around in my head. I had been excluded from the memes that made everyone laugh. I knew I had been fired from my first job. In disbelief that my boss would betray me. Regret that I said anything, and a realization. As time went by I realized that having an opinion changed is an important part of life. It shows that you are not blinded by your own selfishness.

As you step foot into LivyLu your eyes will be bombarded with an abundance of screen-printed clothing, an overflow of natural light, and shelves of charming gifts, all revolving around legendary musicians, state pride, and college spirit wear. When I first walked into the revitalized 6th street space, I was immediately greeted by cheerful employees and a modern atmosphere with a bohemian twist full of upcoming trends. The racks are always equipped with sizes ranging from XS to 2XL and an abundance of creative designs and styles. Colorful graphics, comfortable tie-dye, and vintage tees are some of the current trends that are incorporated into their inventory, but their clothing and gifts are sure to change every few weeks. Currently, LivyLu offers state pride clothing for twenty-four states and offers spirit wear for thirteen universities ( ranging from the University of South Carolina to the University of Oklahoma). New arrivals are constantly being introduced on their Instagram account with over 23,000 followers, displaying a diverse selection of products and collections. As a huge fan of college sports, nothing makes me happier than walking out onto the cracked sidewalk along 6th Street with a big paper bag of new college wear. Whether you’re on the hunt for cute game-day apparel or a small Oklahoma-themed gift, you’re sure to find adorable items that no one else has seen on 6th Street at LivyLu.

From the moment you step into the theater, director Matt Reeves plunges you into the grisly, somber atmosphere of Gotham City in his most recent hit, The Batman. The breakout hit takes the superhero and creatively delves into the complexity of his true nature, showing us a character unlike what we know him as from his past stories. From the deep night to the gloomy daytime to the seemingly colorless world of Gotham, the grim atmosphere the film develops is nearly tangible. Rather than your typical good-versus-evil conflict, Reeves spins The Batman into a grungy detective drama in which Batman is neither the good nor the evil, grappling with his own internal conflict as a result of the death of his parents as he races to end the Riddler’s attempts to destroy Gotham. He also struggles to navigate his newfound and unexpected involvement with Catwoman. Though the movie is a long three hours, the mystery of the riddler, the suspense of their cat-and-mouse chase, and the intense combat action glues you to the edge of your seat for every second of it. The exceptional cinematography of the film keeps you enraptured in the Gotham universe. I greatly recommend this movie to fans and non-fans of Batman alike, as It was a fantastic watch and is a top contender for movie of the year by far.

When I open the wide stainless steel doors coming into Shawkat’s Mediterranean grill I feel as if I’m a part of the family that owns the establishment. It has a narrow-looking restaurant front, located in a small desolate shopping center on 41st and Sheridan, Shawkat’s presents an at-home feeling environment using wooden booths and the greek food aroma throughout. It offers a wide variety of freshly prepared homemade Mediterranean cuisine, it is ranked locally in Tulsa, OK for having some of the most authentic food that Tulsa has to offer. This restaurant is perfect for families or individuals with a craving for greek food that won’t cost a fortune, the entrees range from wraps, sample platters, and salads that are anywhere from $6.99 to $12.99. In addition, The appetizers, such as homemade pita bread and fresh hummus offered with fruits and vegetables to top off the palette are one of the many memorable factors in the dining experience here. Offered at $7.99, The one-of-a-kind greek entrees and especially the flavorful, and flaky baklava served for dessert were brought out in a very timely manner by a friendly face that made the experience even better. Whether you’re wanting to dine in or take out, with a visit to Shawkat’s you are guaranteed to be astonished by this family-owned dining experience.

On my sixth birthday, I went to the best place to get all-you-can-eat cheese pizza and chocolate brownies in Tulsa, incredible pizza. Little me walking in the front doors with my family was hit with the sound of a huge arcade and the smell of fresh-baked dough. Being the birthday girl of the hour, I was ready to jump into the go-karts with my many birthday guests. But, before I could run around and do as I please around the arcade, I got to spin a huge birthday wheel full of prizes like 100 tickets, a new stuffed puppy, and king-sized candy bars. Looking at the wheel, I was observing what prize I wanted. Looking through the prizes, I got bored with the candy bars and the tickets, and the random stuffed animals. But, one of them caught my eye. A pet goldfish. I have always wanted a pet for myself, but at the time the answer was always no since I was only 6 years old. But, now was the time I could finally get my new best friend for my birthday.

Once it was my turn to spin the wheel, my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and best friends lined up near the yellow wheel. I paced towards it, eyes closed, passing my guests lined up, with a scrunched focused face repeating “please get the goldfish, please get the goldfish” in my head. As soon as I was a few feet away from it, I looked up at the wheel, took a breath, and put all the strength my little arms had and pushed the wheel. It spun and spun and spun and when the wheel stopped spinning, it landed on a prize. Eyes widened, heart racing, adrenaline running. It landed on the gold fish. It was like God answered my prayers. It was pure birthday luck. But as fast as my excitement built up, it went right back down again. The red shirt workers glanced at each other, glanced at me, and then turned the wheel once, on another prize. At that point, my new prize didn't even matter to me.

Feeling this disappointment taught me at a young age that you can't blow up about things you can't control. Of course I was so happy to win a goldfish, but after realizing that I wont be getting one, I didnt let it ruin my birthday party. I went on and got more presents that I loved, candy that made me sick, and pure happiness rom go karts.

The fall semester of my Junior year was the most stressful part of my life. Rather than accomplishing the work set before me by my teachers like a good AP student would do, I opted to scroll through social media for hours. And maybe this would’ve been ok if it only happened once, everyone needs a break right. The problem was that it became a persistent, habitual issue. 1 day turned into 1 week, which eventually turned into 1 month. Before I knew it I found myself a whole 30 days behind on some of my assignments with finals just two weeks away. Procrastination has taken a pervasive root in our community. This deadly agent that replaces creativity with complacency chokes us as we attempt to escape its ever present grip. High school has been crazy for all of us, whether it be a teacher walkout, floods, or a 2.5 year fight with covid we’ve all had our struggles that we’ve either given into or worked to overcome. The problem comes when we consistently give into the pressures that cause us to lose the battle. This past summer while reading a book by theological scholar John Piper titled, “don’t waste your life” I stumbled across a quote that read, “Desire that your life count for something great! Don’t coast through life without a passion”. Students, teachers, parents if you get nothing else from tonight please hear this. Don’t find yourself spending more time coasting than acting purposefully. We all have been given the simple gift of life. Invest time into the people you're close to, cross that bucket list item off the list, and hardest of all make amends with those who have hurt you. There is no do over in the game of life so make the most of it while you still can. The ultimate goal to life is letting go when the time comes without regretting the things you either did or didn’t do. I’d like to thank everyone here for this opportunity and the people in my life who have helped me get to where I am today, and remember a life that is wasted is just as bad as a life that is lost.

When I walked through the double doors and down the stairs into Downstairs at Eric’s, I immediately felt the presence of unleashed chaos. Before you can even lay your eyes on the seating options, your vision is disrupted by bright flashing lights from the sardine-like packed arcade machines and lots of loud, rowdy children running around. Menu items included typical American food, such as wings and pizza, and burgers. At the take-out area, there were no designated employees, just bar staff who had to periodically come over to the section for the time being. After waiting much longer than our 20 minutes estimated wait, the food finally arrived in its steamed up plastic container, leaving the bun of the burgers somewhat soggy. Alongside that, the meat was dry and the fries could’ve been mistaken for something from the frozen food aisle. There wasn’t even any sauce provided to dip the lackluster fries in. If you are looking for somewhere to eat high-quality, tasty food and enjoy your time, I do not recommend Downstairs at Eric’s.

The Ridge is the best restaurant for large gatherings in South Tulsa. The atmosphere is open to dressing up or dressing down, a prom dinner or a casual get-together are both events that fit right in. The chicken parmesan is well seasoned and uses the best sauce to pasta ratio. If you’re not a chicken parmesan fan, there are plenty of options. The menu has everything from Fig and Walnut pasta to Ribeye topped with wild mushrooms. All of the food is reasonably priced, delectable, and speedy. As a bonus, the portions are big enough to split. Lastly, the owner and managers make an effort to stop by every table throughout the night, making the restaurant warm and personal.

One of my favorite treats is my mom’s black Russian cake. It’s spectacular! It’s googy, chocolaty, with thin glossy icing, it is the most delicious cake you’ll ever eat. She never makes it just for us, only when guests come, and there’s never enough that way because everyone wants seconds. Thankfully we have guests a lot and this one particular time we had friends coming for dinner she made her famous cake, put it on her favorite cake stand (you know the one from chip and joanna’s target line, cause she’s a mom so she shops are Target and exclusively watches HGTV and Dateline), set it on the counter, and went running some errands. About an hour later I heard a shriek of laughter mixed with a little hint of frustration coming from the kitchen. My whole family ran in to see what all the noise was about and when we burst through the door we saw my 3-year-old brother had climbed the counter spiderman style, taken off the heavy glass case without scraping a nic of the icing, we haven’t decided whether that was just luck or pink panther skill, and he was face down into the cake, He has successfully taken a bite off every inch of the top, where most of the icing is, and only left the base of the cake, which he was headed to next if we didn’t stop him. We all laughed hysterically, jaws dropped, and emery just smiled with chocolate all over his grin.

You might be wondering what the point here is, well it’s very clear, If your mom makes you a cake - eat it - she’ll make another and you’ll finally get the amount you deserve.

A lack of bedbugs should never be a pleasant surprise for a hotel, but at the Baymont by Wyndham in Shawnee, it is. Immediately upon entering my room, I first noticed the hole in the wall where a fire alarm was supposed to go, and the exposed wiring within. Perhaps it was removed in order to make room to walk, because the entry hall into the room was very narrow. One of the only nice parts of the hotel were the beds. The beds appeared clean, and were reasonably comfortable. In the bathroom, the towel rack in the bathroom had been ripped out of the wall and set on the toilet. The water from the sink and shower had an overwhelming metallic taste. But the room was only the start of the issues. Breakfast was abysmal. They had a limited selection to begin with, with a waffle maker, a juice machine, some toasters, a fridge with yogurt, milk and sausage biscuits in it. The waffle maker only worked for the first morning of my stay, and the only protein options were microwave sausage biscuits and yogurt. I am doubtful the fridge actually worked, as the sausage biscuits inside were warm to the touch. I also made a cup of coffee with the milk in the fridge, and the milk was spoiled. Even the orange juice didn’t taste like orange juice. If you were quick, you might manage to grab one of the half-dozen room temperature bagels or bread slices, because none of the toasters worked. My door key card would randomly stop working, so on the off chance that an employee was actually at the service desk I had to get it reset. I would rather camp outside the nearby Denny’s then stay at this hotel again.

Dear Mrs. Altreat,

I would like to start by saying thank you for trusting me with your daughter’s progress, Sianna has shown great strength improvement from the first time she came in, however, there’s a slight concern I have over her improved yet slow healing, we believe Sianna has a condition called Muscle Atrophy. This is when a muscle, or in Sianna’s case, her four muscles surrounding the shoulder socket that keeps the arm in place loses mass and ultimately deteriorates. Those four rotator cuff muscles could become a noticeable problem in the future, The condition can be caused by a past injury or sometimes genetics. From the test I’ve done today, the past history of a torn rotator cuff has proven that this conclusion is definitive. Although her water exercises have been a success it is not healing as fast as it should. With this surgery, it would help improve her strength and recovery speed detrimentally. I know any parent would be fearful going into surgery like this, and I completely understand so I'll give you some choices and time to decide with what you want to do. FES (functional Electronic Stimulation) uses electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contraction in affected muscles. The Technician attaches electrodes or wires, to the shoulder. The wires transmit an electrical current, which triggers movement in the limb. However If you want to continue doing physical therapy please let me know. If you have any questions dont hesitate to contact my office. Thank you for trusting us in the progress of Siannas’ injury

The Emmy winning tv series ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ is a comedic drama and quirky show about Mrs. Maisel, a woman who has the perfect life. Two kids, a loving husband, and a great social life, Mrs. Maisel, or Midge, has it all, until her husband has a failed standup comedy show and leaves her, declaring he had an affair and can no longer be with her. After this event, Midge shows up drunk to the same place it all started, the comedy club, and that is where her journey of independence begins.

Amy Sherman did a remarkable job at coming up with a creative storyline. In doing so, Sherman wrote lovable characters such as Susie Myerson, who is a fan favorite due to her witty, quick, and humorous remarks and comebacks to the other characters, but also showing her soft side. The moments of the ‘client not friends’ ongoing joke between Susie and Midge gives us a look into how Susie has a hard time being friendly with people, but when it comes to Midge, she is her person.

The show takes a nod at her other Emmy winning show, ‘Gilmore Girls,’ and you can see Sherman’s writing style come to life once again in this show. Keeping the witty and sarcastic characters in, such as Midge herself, reminds me of Lorelai, the main character on Gilmore Girls. They are both mothers learning how to balance love, life, and being a parent in a lighthearted and funny way. Sherman also included cameos of Gilmore girls characters, such as Kelly Bishop who played Benedetta in season four and also played Lorelai’s mom in Gilmore Girls. Milo Ventimiglia who played Midge’s love interest for a short scene in the park, and played Jess in Gilmore Girls. This show is definitely one you will want to binge watch, especially when you get to season three. Every episode will leave you staring at your screen in disbelief. You will never get bored watching comedian Mrs. Maisel’s life being played out.

So I work at a taco shop with a drive-thru. When you work fast food you never know when you'll be attacked by a Karen or a Ken. It was around 7:30 in the morning when the sun was barely peeking through a door dasher walked in and said he had an order needed to pick up. I asked him to confirm the order so I knew he wasn’t stealing the food. He automatically clenched his jaw and rolled his eyes to the point where you could only see white. The first thing he hit me with was “you suck at your job” I was too tired and too used to angry dashers that I chose to let it go, and even tried to explain to him that it wasn’t my rule was just following it and that if he didn’t show me the confirmation I would not be able to let him take the order. He continued to say things like “the other workers are better than you, they never ask for this'' the funniest one was “I am one of the top dashers in Tulsa'' In my head, I’m thinking how does this make a difference I still need to see some confirmation. He ends up showing me the phone slamming it against the counter and taking the order. he comes back an hour later and at this point, I had already reported him to doordash letting them know what happened because I needed my revenge. I tell him “ I need to see confirmation”.Once again he starts screaming his face was red and long he said what ken’s favorite sentence is “ I want to speak to a manager”. I go and grab my manager and explain towhat had happened. My manager didn’t say anything I hadn't already said. He starts bragging about how much money he makes and at this point I had had it and I yelled back “no one asked you and no one cares to show the confirmation or leave” and so he left. Another hour goes by and he comes back and apologizes out of nowhere. When I heard this I was baffled and came to a realization that the job I have now I never want to have again and it is a constant reminder to keep pushing myself.

Mr. Beiler,

In 2018, DUB week was founded with the intention of bringing the student body together by raising money for a philanthropy in the community. Since then, DUB week has become a huge event at the school. I believe for DUB week to become a consistent success and a branded community fundraiser, there needs to be some reorganization and support for the leadership class. Our Leadership Teachers this year have struggled to know the process of Student Council, how to properly execute the events that the leadership class takes on, and the design of the curriculum and structure of a leadership class. For example, Mr.Williams’ Senior Seminar class is a Pilot course and has had support from both Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Pixely throughout the school year with this course, yet our leadership class hasn’t had any help in forming curriculum and structure. It has left a small group of students who are more hardworking and passionate about the event to do all the work which is dysfunctional for the class and unfair to the students. As you know, Student Council has taken on this project and has used its members to put on the event. I think that Student Council needs to separate from DUB week and become specifically the leadership class’s project. I think this will allow other students and clubs at Jenks to be able to support and take on the event, creating a more school-wide project. This will also allow Student Council to become more utilized for specific projects. I would appreciate a meeting to discuss these issues in the near future with the leadership teachers and other administrators in order to set up a better leadership class for the future.

Good afternoon Professor John,

I’ve unfortunately come down with the flu and won’t be back until next Wednesday at the earliest. I’ve communicated this with my project partners and have emailed them my completed portion. I’m aware this project is due soon and I’m willing to make up the presentation portion I’ll be missing. Your time and consideration while I navigate my illness is greatly appreciated. Your class is extremely important to me and I will take care of any assignments or notes as soon as I’m able. Please let me know if there’s anything more I can do to help.

Thank you again,

Raemi Seiler

Walking into nolas up the flight of stairs while looking at the beautiful dimmed lights and brick wall all around me. the lights and music made me feel like I’m in a romantic movie with cheerful bright faces dressed in suit ties and black dresses. There were old fashion chairs I have never seen before. It’s a very relaxing and calm restaurant with a lot of jazz music playing and the vibes felt like I was back in the 50ths. The menu was huge with delicious food and had so many options to choose from. I got the voodoo chicken dish. It was delightful and really fresh. They had amazing service and great drinks. Also, the trinity cobb salad was not a disappointment. The only thing is that it was really expensive but it is so worth it. I would recommend this place for birthday dinner, date night, or even just a family celebration.

Good afternoon Dr. Brown,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying your day. I wanted to check in with you and discuss the upcoming Statistics project that is due this Thursday. I have been sick for the past two days with the flu which is causing me to be unable to attend my classes. I won’t be able to come in and present my project due to my illness. Although I am unable to present to the class, I was wondering if I could talk to you about alternative presenting options? I was thinking about hosting a zoom call presenting my project while sharing my screen to the class, or seeing if you would be open to me presenting when I return to school? My doctor advised me to come back to school the following Monday. I would like to know what works best for you and what you are comfortable with. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have my project ready for presenting, I just won’t be able to present on the original deadline date. I am very sorry if this brings you any inconvenience. Thank you for your time, let me know if you have any questions.

FINAL:

Hello Daniel!

I am reaching out to you to let you know I have come down with the flu. I haven’t been feeling well at all, and I don’t want to put my co-workers at risk for sickness either. I won’t be able to come to my shifts for the rest of the week. I did in fact get them covered so you won’t have to worry about that. Just to let you know Mia will be taking both of my shifts! I am sorry for the notice. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day! Please contact me if you have any questions.

I’ve been on Seroquel for about a year now. And I honestly can say that I don’t enjoy the experience of the mood stabilizer. Seroquel is a very time-sensitive drug, and you need to have a life that you can schedule. So If you can’t take them at the same time every night you'll either sleep too late or wake up too early. But in my experience, I still feel zombie-like after waking up, cause my set wake-up time is 6:45 am, and from then I'm on and off sleeping till I get out of bed. After getting out of bed, I have about a 4 hour buffer period where I will daydream or disassociate. The appetite increase is also insane you can eat for 3 on it. But just because you're on this pill, it doesn't mean you'll have an experience like mine. Yes, this pill has a lot of specifics and qualifications that you need to meet to be on, and I just don't meet those.
