some live in mansions and high rises/condominiums, others live in huts and slums. In London it was the reverse! The recent fire in a high rise in the wealthiest district in Europe, was a fire of the poor and the displaced, who live in the ugly ill built skyscrapers next door to the very rich living in large low-scale apartments or four story historic homes.

These baskets bring another way of thinking about the scales of justice that are the icon for this topic (see far top right hand corner of the padlet page!). It is not laws alone that make for justice but the ways in which basic securities and rights are distributed. The baskets make me think of rice, bananas, food and not only money. What do we need apart from laws to make a 'just' society

This makes me think of what the connection might be between inequality and conflict or peace and equality! Is the one reliant on the other? superficially I would say yes, but then I think and wonder: what about the seeming inequality in feudal societies or empires such as those in ancient China or India? And today the richest country has the highest wealth inequality - the USA - but it is 'at peace' at least within its own borders.

The other image - malt whisky - made me think of the strange relationship between dependency on some kind of 'drug' (including alcohol) and certain kinds of marginalization or exclusion, (indigenous, intergenerational unemployment and poverty; mental health) on the one hand, and sections of the affluent and drug dependency on the other (celebrities, parties, etc. )

Put this 'map' with the mind map Equal Opportunity or any of our other drawings and we begin to see new questions, new perspectives, new ways of thinking - or thinking differently ....
