My man crush Monday... I'm definitely going to have to go with William James. His wise words and positive outlook on life inspired me. Not only his optimism, it was his belief that one man's thoughts about life can truly shape one's life. "Man can alter his life by altering his thinking". I agree with what James is stating, and how your attitude on obstacles can determine the quality of your life.

His ideas of comparative psychology allowed for psychologists to have a wider range of test subjects allowing for the execution of more experiments. Before Darwin’s theories, most researchers were trying to understand humans by simply looking at averages and similarities between people. He continuously looked at the world with optimism, which is on the contrary as I do. But is a way of thinking I can appreciate. One quote of his I enjoyed was, "pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power". I agree to this statement because pessimists always see the worst in situations when life is short and you should try your best to see all the good there is in situations.

Later on in his career he developed the free association Technique; which is when a patient lays down on a couch and talks about traumatic events. Also throughout his career he had to deal with hostility from the world because his findings undermined the culture of his time. However, he never gave up on his findings and now his research is still used in modern psychology.
