The story seems to take place in France.
Sevrine is a jewish girl and Monique is a french girl.
Sevrine is hiding in Monique's home to hide from the Nazi soldiers probably.Monique and her mom are their best to help Monique to hide from the Nazi soldiers.Monique tripped and fell and Sevrine necklace fell out of her hands.If Monique gets caught with the necklace she can get arrested or even killed by the Nazis.Though Monique got lost she has reconnected with her mom when Monique went back home to hope to find her mom before falling asleep.Sevrine parents never made it to the jewish refuge because they died.Only Sevrine made to the refuge and was free from hiding.
